Default Tuesday 4/17 game in Oakland is free

Yep, the A's are letting everyone in free. Even parking is free. Concessions are not.

Both teams will wear throwback uniforms from 1968.

It's part of the A's 50th anniversary celebration of moving from KC to Oakland (ironic since they are desperately trying to leave Oakland).

Curious to see what type of crowd they get. Ive thought of the Sox doing something like this early in a season but it could come back to really bite them publicity wise, if they drew 20K.

Here's a closer look at the old unis plus the commemorative ball for the game:

They had over 300,000 request for tickets. They opened "Mount Davis" to accommodate the crowd which they never do for baseball games.

Miguel Gonzalez vs. Trevor Cahill.

Odds are the fans will get what they paid for.

It's a cool idea, though.

Wow - 50 years since Finley uprooted the A's and headed west for greener pastures. Are the A's going to wear those white shoes? How about one of the players riding a mule to home plate to present the umpires with the game ball?

Seriously, free admission is the only way the A's are going pack the place. They've been trying to move this franchise for years now. Davis held the city hostage and turned a decent ball park into a monstrosity with the upper deck extension for his beloved Raiders who will soon be calling Las Vegas home.

The Sox-A's rivalry in the early 70s was a good one. Dick Allen almost single-handedly beat out Oakland for the division title in '72. And the A's of the early 70s were a true dynasty. They could do it all and won a few titles.

Campaneris, Bando, Reggie, Hunter, Holtzman, Fingers, Rudi, Tenace - Finley put together a powerhouse and then disbanded the team when the players started demanding more dinero.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did with this weather we have here.

I'm a die hard, but I think the 30 degree games are something I've grown out of. They're almost always no fun.

Free tickets = More beer money. The late innings should be interesting.

Watching the game, wow those blue unis look absolutely fantastic! First time I've seen them in action. My favorite road uniform. Hope they wear them again really soon.

Sox players should refuse to accept salary for tonight's effort.

They're fun for one time as a novelty, but they're not as good as the current road unis.

Someone should tell Benetti that tonight is not the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Oakland Coliseum as he kept saying. The stadium opened in 1966 (for the Raiders). Today is the 50th anniversary of the A's first game in Oakland.

I agree, but they're still better than those dreadful '83 home unis that the Sox have trotted out every Sunday for the last few years. They were great at first as a novelty, but ugh I'm so sick of those eyesores every week.

Hahn has quite the eye for veteran pitchers who have nothing left in the tank.
