Default MLB Playoff Races

Well we're down to the final 2 weeks and things are getting interesting - in the NL that is. AL is pretty much set with Oakland having a 7 game lead for the final WC play-in slot.

NL has a lot of teams still in the hunt for the WC though the Brewers have a fairly strong lock on the first WC slot with a 3-game lead.

Should be some great baseball down the stretch.

This is an interesting hypothetical: Barring some sort of disaster by Houston or Boston, we already are pretty sure Oakland and New York will play for the Wild Card.

Knowing this, if you are the Athletics or Yankees, do you:

Manage you rotation and bullpen to earn the fourth seed and the home game?

OR

Manage your rotation and bullpen to ensure your best starting pitcher starts the Wild Card game, regardless of location?

Home field means far less than getting your rotation set up, IMO.

It's always get the starter set. The road team is 7-5 in wild card games so far.

Living in Denver for the past two years, I would have expected more enthusiasm for the Rockies but all people really care about out here are the Broncos.

Yeah, I have a family member who moved to ATL in the oughts and all anyone seems to care about is college football. With that dynastic run the Braves had you'd think those who were around for it would stay enthusiastic fans for life.

As they say in Atlanta, "Go Hawks!... and take the Falcons with you!"

With five days left in the season, it's stunning that while the AL spots have pretty much been decided for months, only one NL playoff position has been secured (though it is pretty obvious who four of the five teams will be, with the question being Colorado or St. Louis for the second wild-card).

Rockies are only .5 game behind LA now for the NL West lead

If the Rockies win the West and Brewers tie with the Cubs, the Cubs would have to use their best pitcher against the Brewers for the division win. And if they lost that play in game, then would have to play the Dodgers with Kershaw going in the wild card play in game.

With the Cubs depleted bullpen and using all their starters upfront their chances would be very slim.

And the Brewers are only .5 game behind the Cubs. What a finish this is going to be. I love it. Current standings below:

I'm dreaming of a scenario where the Brewers win the Central, the Rockies win the West, and Clayton Kershaw ends the Cubs season in the wild card game.

I want to see the Brew Crew win the NL Central.

The Rockies win the NL West.

The Cardinals beat the Cubs in the wildcard game at Wrigley with help from a crucial error from Baez.

Is it possible for the Cubs to go 0-for the week and miss the playoffs entirely? I vote for that option.
