The Rockies beating the Cubs 1-0 going into the top of the 6th.

Kyle Freeland (Rockies SP) has been phenomenal. Had a sick Buehrle-esque pickoff move on Zobrist that was initially called out, but overturned on review.

Lester is striking out guys as well, but the Rockies have been making hard contact and a couple of his Ks were generous calls by the ump.

Lots of praise for Benetti and his crew for their broadcast last night.

Benetti is really good when he isn't spending 75% making corny jokes with Stone. I like him on ESPN college football and college basketball broadcasts a lot. He's fantastic when he is focused on calling the game in front of him.

I bet you see the jokes decrease when the team gets better. Several announcers start to drift when the play on the field is hot garbage.

Yankees defeat the A's 7-2 to move on and play the Red Sox.

The good news is, one of these teams are guaranteed to lose. Bad news is, one of these teams are guaranteed to win.

This. Both fanbases are annoying, but if possible, Red Sox fans are worse as they're new to this winning thing compared to the Yankees. I've already heard the "how can they lose when they won 108 games" until you look at the fact that Boston really got there by beating up on bad teams.

16-3 vs. Baltimore
15-4 vs. Toronto
6-0 vs. LA Angels
4-0 vs. Miami
6-1 vs. Texas

They were 41-33 vs. teams that finished the season over .500 and 67-21 vs. teams under .500. Against the other playoff teams in the AL, they only went 10-9 vs. the Yankees and actually lost the season series to both Houston and Cleveland (3-4 vs. both).

Best thing I read was someone pointing out that the Cubs lost 2 games to the Sox this season. They win either one of them and they don't have to play Monday or, consequently, Tuesday.

So, we helped them to their early exit.

Still kind of weird that they scored less than 2 runs 39 times during the season and still won 95 and got into the playoffs, when the only team who didn't reach 2 more than they did lost 115 games.

Well said, MtGrnwdSoxFan, for the reason nsolo alludes to.

This may be the first time in history that I cheer for the Red Sox against the Yankees, due to Chris Sale.

My wife was born and raised in Boston. The Red Sox are one of the only things keeping her 94 year old mother going. I can't bring myself to root against my mother-in-law and her team.

As much as I enjoy the realm of advanced statistics and their merits, they work for large sample sizes but mostly do not work for the playoffs. This is Beane's failure. His Moneyball approach simply does not work come playoff time. Bunting, situational hitting, hit and runs, steals, and great pitching WILL win in the playoffs. The A's simply do not get it. And frankly, I don't think Fangraphs does either.
