Sickels gives updates on the pre-season Top 20

https://www.minorleagueball.com/2018...-season-review

Quote:
A difficult season in the majors, but Eloy Jimenezand Michael Kopech give some hope for the immediate future. Thinking ahead for the 2019 list, look for 2018 draftees Nick Madrigal and Steele Walker, a higher ranking for Luis Alexander Basabe and trade acquisition Kodi Medeiros all candidates for the top ten. Relief sleepers Jose Ruiz, Ian Hamilton, and Tyler Johnson will also bear watching.

March 16, 2005 - Another happy Sox fan joins the party!
July 6, 2012 - 7 years later he's still part of it...

Luis Robert is hitting only .239 at Winston-Salem. In 92 at bats he's struck out 32 times with no home runs. Perhaps, the White Sox brass was premature in promoting Robert to Winston-Salem. He may no be ready to play at advanced A ball. Maybe, he'll come around next year.

Considering he has barely played in the last two seasons, I am not too concerned by this. Pay attention to next year, and see how he plays.

But Hahn has said that service time would not be a consideration when it came time to promote someone to the majors.

Expecting him to say something else in public seems dubious logic.

If he says that, then the MLBPA will file a grievance. This is literally the same context as when the Cubs kept Bryant down.

I think the White Sox did well by giving Robert and Madrigal a sample of the level where they will begin the 2019 season.

Yea, the Sox kind of did that last year too with Eloy going up to AA and Kopech going up to Charlotte. I think a lot of organizations do that.

Other than Eloy's 4 for 4 performance, here are some highlights from yesterday's games:

Hamilton: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Flores: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Gonzalez: 2 for 5, 2B
Madrigal: 2 for 4, 1 BB, 2 SB
Rutherford: 1 for 4, 3B
Forbes: 1 for 3, 2B

Perhaps we'll see Hamilton up in the majors next season for the Sox

Then this is why he dug himself into a hole and now uses the excuse of "checking all the boxes." No one knows but him what those boxes are, if there are any boxes at all. He never should have said anything about service time.

I was surprised to see that Hamilton barely got a mention from Siskels in his updated piece on the top Sox prospects that just came out. I think he has a chance to be a pretty gone one.

Hahn never used the term "checking the boxes". He said something to the effect of "there are still some things he needs to work on". Some writer tweeted out the checking the boxes thing, and it went viral.

The only reason Hamilton isn't closing for the White Sox right now is because he doesn't need to be added to the 40-man for another year.
