What a sweet day for the organization.

Big club walks off Detroit. Lopez and Hamilton look good.

Charlotte wins 6-1. Stephens looks good.

Birmingham wins 6-4. Clarkin's three shutout innings of relief were the prospect highlight.

Winston-Salem wins 5-3 headlined by Madrigal's 4-4 day and 2 RBI each from Sheets and Rutherford. Madrigal finishes the season over .300.

Kannapolis wins 9-4 to make the playoffs. Perez continues to impress with 3-5 and a HR. He might crack the offseason T30 list.

Alas, I will fall asleep before the Great Falls box comes in.

Sheets with a strong finish- hitting .351 over his last 10, and increasing his OPS from .713 (1st half) to .823 (2nd half)- still light in home runs- but a pretty nice year for his first full season in the pros.

I think Kanny made the post season with their win today combined with the WV loss.

So how exactly do playoff rosters work in the minors? Could there be "demotions" from AA to A+, if a player spent a good part of the season at A+? I don't think they need any more OFs and Cease has been shut down, but Flores and Thompson, for example, spent half the season in Winston Salem and could help out their playoff run.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Sheets does next year and builds on his success this season. Yeah, he ultimately is going to have to produce HRs, but I'm still confident that he'll eventually tap into that power.

On the next-to-last day of the season, the Sox picked up LHP Tyler Watson from Atlanta. He had pitched for a high-A team this year, the Florida Fire Hogs. He's 25.

He pitched one inning yesterday at Charlotte, with 2 Ks and 1H.

I can't find anything on the trade other than Atlanta traded him to the Sox, and the Sox didn't send anyone to Atlanta, so I'm guessing it was a cash trade or for international signing pool money. I suppose the Sox needed some lefties in their system. He started at low-A with a Seattle affiliate, was released, and then picked up by Atlanta and sent to thewir low-A then to Florida.

Here are his stats.

They had a nice lengthy interview with Tyler Johnson during yesterday's game. Interesting to hear about the personalities of some of the prospects at W-S we keep hearing about. They also asked him who was the most impressive hitter to him at W-S (Micker Adolfo)

For anyone who recorded the game or has an MLB.TV subscription, they had him on during the bottom of the 2nd and top of the 3rd last night.....and you can re-watch the broadcast through MLB.TV even if you live in the Chicago market.

Not much to discuss with the seasons winding down. Nate Jones made an appearance. He's been hurt the last 4/5 seasons or something like that. Guy can't catch a break.

That's awesome! He's gonna shoot up the prospect rankings for sure.

For the month of August, Cease was named the pitcher of the month for the Sox system and Eloy was named position player for the Sox system. I wonder what Cubs fans are thinking.

In addition to Cease taking top pitching honors, Jimenez and Tyler Johnson also get named to MLB Pipeline's team of prospects of the year:

W-S and Kannapolis have been eliminated. Great Falls is still playing and Bush, Sosa, Nunez, and Martin had good outings for their win yesterday:

Here's a podcast with Chuck Garfein where Jim Callis takes a look at the status of the Sox farm system:
