Future Sox has a good article on Alec Hansen's struggles this season and his efforts with coach Matt Zaleski to get back on track:

Remember how Rutherford was trash after last season?

Doesn't sound super enouraging. Prospect of him becoming a pen piece is going up.

Perhaps we should be following the advice of the author?

While it's easy to write Hansen off as a prospect, rumors of his demise are premature. Hard evidence of this the progress he made in his last start of the season. “I don’t think it’s going to be much of an issue,” said Zaleski. “The time off in the offseason getting healthy and strong will be very beneficial. He did it once, so I don’t see it as being a problem,” he added.
Pitchers with a top-level fastball and a 60-grade slider to go with an above average curve shouldn't be discounted easily. He's got an entire offseason to return to form and the full support of the White Sox organization to help him get through it.

Southsidesox's recap of the Great Falls season. It give a good summary of the performance of several 2018 draft picks plus 18-year old international signee Lenyn Sosa:

Doesn't sound super negative either. Not sure how becoming a reliever is in any way suggested from this article.

Which was written by someone who decided to disregard his entire 2017 season and take only into account a grand total of 50 innings pitched in 2018. Does that even deserve merit?

I get what you're saying. But anyone can realize this season as a step back, and I'm pretty sure many early on saw him as a pen piece with his control issues. It was ability he showed last year that brought people on board to him starting in the bigs long term.

The thing is, Hansen was always projected to be a starter. His lackluster senior year pushed him down the boards and started the reliever talk (which is still a possibility I will admit). But 2017 showed what he could do. He kept consistent for the entire season, which speaks volumes.

I didn't catch the game yesterday, but it looks like Nick Madrigal was in the booth with Benetti and Stone last night:

Agreed. Injuries and him being in his own head is what did him in for 2018. He should still project as a starter.

Future Sox has posted reviews of the 2018 Kannapolis and Great Falls seasons. The Great Falls recap has a look at a number of 2018 draft picks.
