Default Minor League Baseball's New Extra Innings Format Turns The Rulebook Into Nonsense

https://deadspin.com/minor-league-ba...s-t-1823790458

Quote:
A few weeks after Major League Baseball announced a series of surface-level rule changes aimed at improving pace of play, Minor League Baseball has announced that itíll start experimenting with something more significant. During extra-inning games this season, a runner will automatically be placed on second base to start each inning after the ninth. (If this sounds familiar, itís similar to what the World Baseball Classic used last year.) Ideally, this would speed up extra-inning games and pump in some excitement; practically, it seems like itíll lead to an awful lot of sac bunts.
This is a black day for baseball.

I was a doubter, but maybe, just maybe we can win with pitching, defense and fundamentals.

As long as it never is done in the majors, I can live with it. But they bastardized the NHL and NFL so who knows what will happen.

Regrettably, it's inevitable. You would think the umpires could force things to speed up themselves, but nope. Gotta make room for the ads and allow time for replay reviews. And we gotta draw in the millenials who weren't baseball fans to begin with.

Screw these rule changes and the horse they rode in on. If baseball gets left behind the other major sports in the next decade, so be it. I'll still watch.

Put in the damn pitch clock and enforce it and leave everything else alone.

What about computers calling balls and strikes, or at least whether the pitch is over the plate or not?

Just having ties is better than all of these contrivances.
I wish college football would bring it back versus that contrived overtime.

This is a horrible rule. It completely changes the game. How do they charge runs to the pitcher? Are they unearned?

Yes, they're unearned.

Frankly, I think going to a home run derby if the game has not ended by a certain point is both more entertaining and less harmful to the game than this proposal.

I think they already have the pitch clock in the minors.
