His role is expected to be filled quickly.

If you think he’s been good at his job, then this move should strengthen an area that many have rightly seen as an organizational weakness.

But though FRATER laughed openly, he wept secretly; and really he neither laughed nor wept. Nor did he mean what he said.

Is this an actual promotion or him getting kicked upstairs?

That's what I was wondering. This organization is so weird in the way it handles staff turnover. When was the last time someone was fired from the front office? Was it Dave Wilder?

Yeah, I was actually wondering yesterday that they’ll probably just announce Chris Getz as his replacement.

I don’t know why they’d fire this guy (or “kick him upstairs” in lieu of firing) as they’ve had some really nice drafts of late.

Like others, I wondered about that but then I thought maybe they are changing focus on building the team in 2020 and beyond. That is, build from others major leagues ranks versus the amateur draft. Obviously, the draft is still important but possibly they want the priority placed on current major league players going forward. Just a thought.

While it would be nice to get some more outside perspective, the Sox are much more likely to promote from within.

A bit odd that they haven't decided already. Maybe they are considering doing an outside search, but I still doubt it.

Right on. All of a sudden, there are some projectable young pitchers in the upper half of our Top-30, courtesy of the last two drafts.

Yeah, regardless of what we think of him the timing doesn't make sense considering the just-completed draft has been widely viewed as a success. Only the most hardened cynics among our fan base seem to think otherwise. Last year's draft looks like it's had some successes beyond Madrigal and Walker, too. (Stiever looks pretty good for a 5th round pick, Bush is viewed as a good find in the 33rd round, Heuer is already in AA and looking good). Are they "firing" him over the Burger pick? Whether we like the pick or not, seems unlikely. Plus, others from the 2017 draft have done well: Sheets, Luis Gonzalez, Henzman, Tyler Johnson, McClure.

Maybe this was a pre-emptive move by the team to keep him from going to another organization.

Maybe it was simply a matter of Hostetler striking while the iron was hot and securing a promotion for himself.

It's a move to get our best scout looking at major league talent, as the team is transitioning out of horde prospect mode and into let's see what we got/let's see what we can trade for mode.
