Great AAA debut for Schryver. It would be nice if we can fill out much of our bullpen from within. Bummer is a good example of that. We got Schryver from the Rays for bonus pool money.

Nice to see Zangari getting going. He missed all of 2017 due for Tommy John surgery. Then in 2018, he played maybe a dozen games at Great Falls, got promoted to Kannapolis and then got hit by a pitch in his first game at Kanny, broke his wrist, and missed the rest of that season. Sheesh.

Box Score
Charlotte needs to deflate the baseballs when Nicolino pitches.

Alec Hansen continues to be all over the place. I cannot pin this guy down. I wonder what they think his role will be with the big league club - if he can even get there. This is the point where he should be up in AAA and putting the finishing touches on his minor league career before he gets the call. What a disappointment. I had such high hopes after 2017. I think everyone did.

Vaughn's slash so far in the minors is .350/.459/.563 with a 1.022 OPS

He's going to climb so fast.

I think he finishes this year at Winston Salem, and clobbers Birmingham and perhaps Charlotte next year. I think only injury or service time manipulation could keep him from a September 2020 callup.

At this point he's looking more like a guy who is never making it out of AA than making the big club. Career trajectory reminds me a bit of Corwin Malone although Corwin was a high school draftee and had his breakout at age 20.

Sox Machine is wrong. The service time during the "core years" will be much more important.

I would promote Robert now.

But I wonít be angry if Hahn waits until after the 2020 service time cutoff.

Hahn could legitimately claim - even if heís secretly insincere - that they want Robert to refine his approach so as to cut down on the strikeouts, and learn to hit the ball to the opposite field when warranted.

Again, itís not the argument I would make, but Iíd understand if Hahn made it.

Birmingham was winning 11-1, but now it's 11-10.

Following the minor league boxes gives me an irrational hatred for certain players. Tonight, I have to ask: why does Mauricio Cabrera have a job?

25-year-old reliever for Birmingham, always seems to have the gas can handy (2.19 WHIP, with more than one 1 walk per inning).

He somehow appeared in 41 games for Atlanta in 2016, but was never really good before, and certainly hasn't been good since.

EDIT: Barons hold on for several innings to win 11-10. Heuer with the save. 18 hits will certainly help those anemic batting averages...Madrigal 1, Booker 3, Rutherford 1, Sheets 2, Forbes 1, L. Gonzalez 3, Tomscha 3, A. Gonzalez 1, Rivera 3.

Vaughn could probably hold his own in the majors right now. They're practically wasting time giving him at bats below AA in my opinion

After this season, Moncada's only under team control for four more years. Once Moncada leaves, it might be difficult to have a championship-level team. So, it wouldn't hurt to put some emphasis on next season, with Robert on the major-league roster for opening day.

To prepare Robert for that, he should be called up to the majors this season, to give him some idea of what to expect. In retrospect, Jimenez would have benefited from being called up late last season and would have been much more prepared for this season.

If we have Robert join the team on May 1, he might struggle for the first few months, as all of our recent top prospects, including Cease, have done. But if Robert comes up, say, next week, he will be much better prepared to have a monster 2020 season.

A video clip from last nightís Barons game showed that Sheets, facing a shift, bunted for a hit down the third base line.
