The team does have to stagger major league promotions for some of these guys so they donít all hit free agency at the same time. Most of this yearís chatter seems to be around Dylan Cease and Zack Collins. Itís starting to look like Luis Robert will be up here sometime in 2020 unless his numbers severely tank or he gets hurt again. Past that, I donít think we can really tell.

Madrigal had a hit in his first at bat at AA. He's currently OPS 2.0 which is over double what Robert is currently managing.

Time to call Nick up?

He's now 2 for 3, with 2 SB. In the fifth, he reached on a throwing error in his third time up, and then was promptly caught stealing.

Sheets hit another home run, his 7th, earlier in the game, and now has 37 RBI and his batting average is .259. He's really been hitting well the last several weeks.

Nice little hype piece by Daryl Van Schouwen in Sun Times about Robert:

I know that a lot of people on this board don't have faith in the front office's ability to sign FAs, but I continue to believe that there will be at least 1-2 quality FA signings to augment the starting lineup. Maybe not a Machado-level mega-deal, but solid, productive players. RF and C (depending on Collins' defensive progress) seem like the most likely spots.

Rotation-wise, we've got Giolito/Kopech/Cease all but set in stone, then hopefully one of Lopez/Dunning, and one (mid-rotation) FA.
Not pushing anything back. If anything, itís that I think itís likely that Abreu might be re-signed for 2020 and 2021, but 2022 may be pushing it, and perhaps by then heíd be superfluous anyway.

Madrigal finished 3/4 and 2/3 SB. Robert was 0/4 with 3K. Rutherford was 3/4 his average is up to .215. Sheets had a 2-run bomb and Gonzales was held hitless

That Andrew Vaughn selection has served as a much needed kick in the pants to Sheets. Seriously though, it's great to see him heating up at the plate. He hit well for average last year at W-S, but showed little of the power he'll need if he's ever to become a viable MLB first baseman.

Even if Vaughn now looks like he's our 1B of the future, you can never have too much talent. If Gavin Sheets can start hitting for power as well as average while being a good defensive 1B, then that's great.

Rutherford, after that absymal start, is hitting .353 over his last 10 games. He still hasn't started showing power, but he's young for AA as he just turned 22 last month. So, there's still time to develop some needed power.

Sheets now has 4 HRs in his last 10 games while hitting .317 over that span. His OPS is approaching .700. Interestingly, he only has 3 doubles total for the season.

Couldn't have asked for a better debut for Madrigal at AA.

Luis Gonzalez went 0-4 yesterday and is now batting .226/.290/.330 this season. So far he's looked overmatched in AA. He did well in A ball and there's still time for him to improve. He'll be 24 this year though, so he'll have to pick it up.

Collins hit another dinger and his slash is .261/.377/.530 in AAA. He's top 20 in walks in OBP in the International League.

It's only one game, but it's nice to see someone hit the ground running after making the jump up to AA. Of course all three hits were singles. It probably helps with the transition that he's not a power hitter, because we know Birmingham suppresses power numbers.

Meanwhile, the DSL White Sox won in a barn-burner, 18-13, thanks to a 7-run 9th inning. They somehow managed to score 18 runs without a single HR. I was a bit thrown off when I saw in the box score that some kid named E. Jimenez was used as a pitch runner (Enoy).

Eloy graduates from the MLB Pipeline prospect list, having accumulated sufficient MLB plate appearances.

Robert is now our top prospect and #17 overall.

Given additional graduations of other clubsí prospects, plus his own meteoric rise, expect Robert to be in the Top 10, and maybe even the Top 5, soon.

Kopech and Cease are right behind Robert at #19 and #21. Madrigal (#43) is the only other guy in the top 100. Vaughn should join them after he signs.

While only having 5 of the top 100 is less than we've been accustomed to the past couple years, it's still better than "average", and you can't forget about all the young talent on the major league team as well. I wonder where the Sox would rank on a list of the "top talent age 26 and under" or something like that, I imagine it would be right near the top.

I am a bit surprised Collins hasn't made a return to the top 100. He's been OPS over .900 all season at AAA.

Collins is all the way down at #11, behind all the Birmingham outfielders. I imagine this is due to the uncertainty about his future position and defensive ability.

Luis Robert is day-to-day after suffering a non-serious “non-contact injury.” Whatever that may be.

@BhamBarons
Barons outfielder Luis Robert exited tonight's game with one out in the ninth inning after an apparent non-contact injury.

It is not considered to be serious and he is listed as day-to-day ahead of Birmingham's upcoming series against Mobile.
