Default Bruce Rondon Outrighted to Charlotte

Bruce Rondon cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Charlotte.

It looks like Bruce Rondon refused the assignment and elected free agency.

I appreciate that there's no chance he'll be seen in a White Sox uniform again.

Thank gawd!

His last appearance was probably the worst I had ever seen (even for a relief appearance). Horrible.

He actually looked pretty good for the first few weeks. Not sure if he regressed, got hurt or the league caught up to him again, but he lost it big time toward the end.

Out of those options, I vote for “regressed.” He stopped throwing strikes, and that is entirely on him. His velocity still was high (which makes me lean against “got hurt”), and he still was striking out lots of opposing hitters (which makes me lean against “the league caught up to him”).

My vote is for “million-dollar arm, ten-cent head,” and that his early-season success was a fluke.

Yeah, he has the tools but does not know how to use them.

Bryan Ward in 1999 was the worst. Gave up 10 homeruns in just 39.1 innings.

Rondon gave up 1 homerun in 29.2 innings.

Both suck but Bryan Ward threw BP fast balls and for the trivia types Bryan Ward was the last Sox player to wear #56 before a much better left handed pitcher grabbed that number.
