Will Charlie Sheen be playing him in the movie?

He had one hell of a year for the Sox. Started the All Star game in Chicago. My brother and I were at the game.

Not sure what was going through his mind here.

Taxes, agents, divorce, extended family back home that is relying on the bank of Esteban, a bad legit investment or two.

No doubt, it is an obscene amount of money, but you can make it disappear in a heartbeat.

I know what you are saying but say after taxes/agents he kept 20MM and got 1% return a year on that money, thats $200,000 a year to live on. Boy would I love to live on that.

In some cases, so would the rest of his family.

Not sure if he was married more than once, but the article from the San Diego newspaper posted by Foulke You, states that Loiaza's wife filed for divorce, but then died in a plane crash a few months later (presumably before a divorce decree was entered or settlement agreement finalized).

I'd be surprised if the divorce drained him financially. It was never finalized due to her passing.

His wife had a way more successful singing career before she died.

I also can't help but wonder if his wife's plan crash was truly an accident. The cartel is very, very sophisticated.

Yeah. That'd be pure speculation, but who knows.

This is just shocking.

Was playing NBA 2K today, and the commentators mentioned how that league has set up a program to help older players transition into retirement. One of them (either Greg Anthony or Grant Hill) even mentioned that the smart thing to do would be to divide up your earnings, say over 40 years, and don't live on more than the allotted amount for each year. It's amazing how many professional athletes don't hire financial planners so that they won't join the Antoine Walkers of the world.
