MLB Pipeline updated their top 100 prospects earlier this week. Robert is the big riser, all the way up to #18.

http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019?list=prospects

I listened to the SoxMachine podcast this morning which had an interview with Jim Callis. He said that if Robert keeps this up, he could be top 5 by the all-star break (or maybe he said end of season, I forget now).

At Charlotte tonight, Jordan Guerrero looked much better going 6 IP with 4K and only 1 walk. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits.

Offense didn't do much but Zack Collins had a pair of hits including a double. Skole had the big hit homering in the 7th to drive in Palka.

They were facing Bryce Wilson who is only 21 and has already caught a cup of coffee in the majors so not surprising they struggled or that the players who had the most success offensively are the batters with the most experience.

Tomishaw and Fulmer pitched the last three innings with Fulmer getting the save after pitching the final 1.2. He had a hiccup in the 9th giving up a couple singles after recording two quick outs but got the final out. It's his second straight effective outing after struggling after his demotion for a few games. His ERA is back down to 2.84

Flores gets the start tonight for Birmingham. If he keeps pitching well, I'd imagine he'll get promoted to Charlotte before long since he already pitched half of 2018 at AA.

Here's a write up about him on South Side Sox:

McClure (Low A)

Cease was allowed to extend to 100+ pitches tonight and used 102. He finished 6 ininings giving up 5 H 4 BB and 7K with only one run - earned. Got some help in the 6th where I'm not sure exactly what happened but after allowing the first two baserunners to reach base, the lead runner was gunned down at third by Collins. I don't think it was a CS because it's not listed that way. Best guess, ball got away from Collins and the runners tried to advance but the lead guy got thrown out. Cease then finished the inning with a flyball and a K. I imagine he's done for the night.

I think its now a matter of weeks, not months, before Cease gets promoted. Give him about 5 more starts.

I think he comes up by the All-Star break.

Basabe has back to back 2-hit games at AA. Maybe he's starting to get comfortable.

Vote for the AAA All-Star teams. Some deserving Charlotte players are on the ballot.

At the MiLB all star break, if this continues, Id move Basabe to Charlotte. This would give him half a season there, and then - since hes already on the 40-man roster, Id give him a September callup to Chicago and start him in CF every day.

This would open up the Birmingham OF for Robert, Gonzalez, and Rutherford to play the OF every day, and/or opens a spot for Walker if you want to promote him.

I think Robert gets the call up before Basabe.

Getting a little ahead of ourselves, arent we? Its not like Basabe is setting the world on fire down there.

Quick notes from last night:

At AAA
Not much to report for the rebuild stuff. Engel is finally over .500 OPS Palka was hitles. Zavala had a 2-run bomb and a walk. Booker was hitless and continues to struggle though he has shown signs of life in recent games.

AA
Robert had two hits Basabe had two more Goales had a hit. Sheets had a Walk and Rutherford had a very solid night with 2H (double) 1BB, 3 RBI and 2 R as did Forbes who has his OPS up to .724 after a 3/4 night including a double with 2 R and 4 RBI. Kubat gave up 4 runs but only one was earned in 5.1 with 5 H and 2 BB.

A+
Pikington got smacked around giving up 6 ER in 4.0 Seemed to struggle with his command from the looks of the box score. Madrigal had a hit but not much else to report thought Dedelow managed a hit a walk and scored three times. His bat might be waking up a bit.

Let these guys absolutely master AA. Then they can go spend a few weeks in Charlotte if they must before being called up to the majors.
