Default Newspapers donít bother with Yankees series

OK, putting aside the argument that local papers donít matter anymore, when was the last time, if ever, that no Chicago newspaper sent a reporter to cover a White Sox/ Yankees series in New York. Both papers used identical wire service stories for their game day coverage and even the SunTimes beat reporterís stories were written days before. Everybody off writing Bears stories or they wonít pay for NYC hotel rooms.

Newspapers are dying. The Sox are not a story regardless of whom they play. The start of football season is huge in Chicago no matter how ****ty the Bears are.

There's nothing more to it.

I have, in fact just renewed. Great read, but I donít think they send their writers on the road either.

They do, but JR Fagan will often go down to Charlotte or one of the minor league affiliates for feature stories about one of the Sox prospects so they don't always have a recap of the game per se.

For James Fegan alone, I will more than gladly re-up when the time comes.

I don’t pay attention to much of this anymore. Newspapers are more editorial in nature than actually carrying news, and for sports you find your news almost immediately, instantaneously online. That said, I was surprised this morning to see not a single story on the White Sox/Red Sox game from last night in the Sunday Tribune. It’s possible I missed it. All I saw was the box score buried at the bottom of the right side of the page under “White Sox Notes”. Now, this wasn’t a west coast game or a road game of any sort. There wasn’t a long rain delay last night similar to Friday. I understand the Bears made a big trade, so that took up some space. This seems inconceivable though.

I had a recap online edition, but don't know about the paper version:

The game is briefly mentioned in the Phil Rogers story (about Kopech) which precedes the box score in my print edition.

So in today's Tribune, at least the early edition, the Sox game ended too late for a game story, so what do we get as filler? A story about Jason freaking Kipnis from Cleveland.com. They'll probably use the excuse that he's a Northbrook kid, and granted, Sullivan did have a nice column covering both teams for the crosstown series, but it's ridiculous that in the space intended for the game story, they couldn't even fill it with something, anything, about the Sox.

Switched from the Tribune to The Athletic last May- cheaper subscription and have not missed the Tribune for a single second.

Good point; it would be tough to find enough subscribers to newspapers to get a mob together.
