Silly. He's an infielder. I know some people think Madrigal is going to be the next Roger Hornsby but he immediately becomes expendable if you can somehow land Rendon.

Heís a third baseman whose defense is starting to decline. Players like that often move to right field. They donít move to second (Moustakas notwithstanding).

Plus, youíre underestimating the value of a potential batting champion/Gold Glove second baseman with seven years of control. Madrigal does not become expendable until he proved he canít handle the job.

Can you provide a couple of recent (last 5 years) examples of this happening?

Castellanos, Chisenhall, and J. Bautista come to mind.

Youíre overestimating the value of a .750ish OPS being in the lineup every day at a position other than C, SS, or CF. Since Grandal and Robert are likely to eclipse that .750 mark, and TA has shown the ability to do so as well, it can be accommodated, but itís still only league-average for offensive production.

Letís put it this way. Would the Angels fret about where David Fletcher would play if they signed Anthony Rendon?

That'd be a very White Soxish move.

He's a lot worse than the free agents available. Like...if you don't want to pay a premium, why not look at Puig or Avi? They'll both end up with a one or two year commitment and not cost you a prospect (or pick).

He hit .844 vs righties last year, so maybe thinking he's a cheaper version of Joc. They also might think there is upside because he's 24 and has slightly gotten better each year. Had a better second half last year too. Non tender candidate next year if he sucks.

Will hate this if I've heard of any of the players going back in this deal.

This isn't a very ambitious move for improve RF in my opinion. Though wouldn't lock up the position for the future at all.

You will have.
Any of these trades are risky because the Sox farm is paper thin after the top guys; drafts haven't kept up.

Mazara makes the lineup stronger against RHP, but he needs a RH hitting platoon partner. Interestingly, Leury Garcia could fill that role, since he hits acceptably as a RH batter against LHP (but struggles as a LH hitter against RHP).

I donít hate the idea of Mazara, but it would depend greatly on what weíre sending to the Rangers in return.

And we still need pitching.

I will take it if we are only giving up Steele Walker

This would be the prototypical White Sox move. Trade for a guy with some upside and hope for the best, rather than commit money to a guy with a proven track record.

I'd rather keep Walker and sign Puig. And I'd rather not sign Puig.
