Charlotte failed to make the playoffs. We should see some additional September call-ups shortly.

Fire Hahn.

Sox promoted Collins, Mendick, Palka and Covey. Both Palka and Collins are in tonight's line-up.

Welcome to The Show Danny Mendick. He's not a top prospect by any means, but he earned the call up with his solid play at AAA this year.

See you in mid-April, Luis Robert. Maybe Madrigal, too.

Exactly what I expected, though figured Ruiz and Minaya if not Mercedes would be up also.

I'm a bit surprised that Mercedes wouldn't get an at bat here or there, but trying to juggle 4 catchers is not an envious job (yes, we all know that Wellington Castillo is still here).

Yeah, I was hoping that they would kick Castillo to the curb, and have a 3-man rotation at C and DH between McCann, Collins and Mercedes. Maybe they like the way Castillo has been working with some of the pitchers like Lopez (his last outing notwithstanding). In the end Lopez's development is more important than getting Mercedes a few September ABs, so I get it. Mercedes would have also required opening up a 40-man spot, but that could have been done by cutting someone like Minaya who they didn't even bother calling up anyway.

Good for Collins; good for Mendick.

And I figured they'd bring back Palka because he had a major role with the team last year, and his strike zone judgment improved a little for Charlotte.

But Covey? That's a head-scratcher for sure. Surely they have seen enough of him to know that he cannot contribute to a bad team, much less a good team. And they already have brought back Banuelos and Fulmer, who are in the same category.

Robert, Madrigal, and Mercedes deserved to be called up instead of the dog**** pitchers.

Those pitchers certainly have been bad, but at this point they need all the help they can get just to eat innings.

In terms of Covey, what is Detweiler adding to the team that cannot be replaced? Covey is a LOT younger and pitched better this spring when he first got called up. He lost it when he returned from injury but has pitched solidly at AAA since being sent down. Why not see if he can recapture his form from May and build on it for next year. If he can then he offers at minimum long relief or trade bait enhancement.

There's a lot more room for callups aren't there? Are Robert and Madrigal on the 40-man roster? Why would team start their clocks ticking now?

I donít think they agree with your assessment of Dylan Covey or Manny BaŮuelos, which is quite discouraging.

Covey had the magic early in 2018. Mid-90's, control, etc. And then, all gone, all gone. Not to say he won't find it when he's with some other team next year. But it's there, somewhere.

First half this year he posted a 4.58 ERA with 34 K in 37.1 IP and a .238 BAA over 9 appearances and 7 starts.

Edit: Here's his game log: http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/gamel...09/dylan-covey

That sure is ugly. He has gone 6 innings only three times and has only 1 quality start. He has been shelled early and often.

They need to aim a lot higher.

By going 0-4 with 2 strikeouts tonight, Palka managed to lower his average to .020. By the end of the season he may not even be hitting his shoe size.
