Default *Official* Mendick 1st MLB HR / Sox Win Postgamer

The Sox salvage the final game of the series with the Halos.

Congratulations Danny Mendick on his first major league home run. What a season for the 22nd round pick from 2015.

Cease with 1st inning struggles again that resulted in a shortened outing because of a pitch limit. I hope he's learning from these tough innings now so that he can hit the ground running in 2020.

Abreu continues his 2nd half surge.

If Mendick works out the way some people expect him to and the Sox are looking to break camp with Madrigal and Robert, Yolmer and Engle can be packaged for a decent AA prospect.

I suspect Yolmer is going to be non-tendered at the end of the year.

I wouldn't mind the Sox resigning Yolmer as a bench player, hard to find guys who can fill in at third, SS and 2B and do a good job at it.
Luery Garcia is another who should probably be kept as a bench player.

They would bring zero return in a trade- just about every organization has guys like these floating around- they've just received an abundance of playing time at the major league level because our overall talent was so weak in the outfield and infield.

Agreed. Would have to be packaged with some other young potential to bring back something decent. Not saying Sanchez can't be a throw in to increase return, but Engel has zero value in trade talks.

Disagree that there are guys like Yolmer and Engel floating around the league. Both of them are ELITE with the glove, they just can't hit worth a lick. There are very few players in the world that are as solid defensively as those too. Both could be defensive-minded backups in this league, but it's hard to justify rostering both on the same team. Maybe it will be more palatable when rosters expand next season.

That said, the league doesn't value defense as much as offense (nor should it), so no, they don't have much trade value.

Congrats to Mendick.
I hope they don't trade him this offseason

Right. Their defense is top-notch. Which is why we should just keep them. If they think Mendick can fill Yolmerís spot well enough to free up that money, I guess Iím fine with that, but it would be awesome if this organization finally reaches a point where worrying about that type of couch change goes the way of the Dodo.

I don't think Yolmer is "elite" defensively- he has an average arm, and prob below average range at SS- he's a solid utility infielder- but I don't think he;ll bring much value in a trade or create much of a market if he's non tendered.

Engel is great with the glove- but nothing special with his arm- so his ceilng is as a 5th outfielder or a AAAA depth guy.

Yolmer is an elite 2B this year, and Engelís arm is solid. The only problem is Yolmerís price tag. Engel is a league-minimum guy next year, and so is Mendick. Leury wonít make a whole lot more than the minimum, either. Yolmer, however, is expensive.

Those two guys should be available for free to any team.

No they canít. Yolmer will make far too much money in arbitration to be a viable trade candidate.
