From what was posted in the now-closed thread, interesting that they're promoting Madrigal to AA now. I didn't think he was exactly outstanding this year at W-S. I'm eager to see how he does for the Barons.

Also, it looks like Basabe's injury that is sending him to the IL is quad tightness.

The Barons played an early game today. Good game for top prospects:
Rutherford 1-4
Gonzalez 1-4, double
Sheets 2-4, HR (his 6th, equaling his HR total for all of 2018)
Rivera 2-3

Decent outings for pitchers, too:
Battenfield: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 7 K
Hansen: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Burdi: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

The bad news: Robert 0-4 with 2 strikeouts (bustwatch!)

It's good to see the Birmingham batters starting to adjust a little. As we all know, AA is a big jump. These guys aren't the same class as Robert (or Eloy), so they may take more time to develop.

Charlotte wins.

Collins 2-4, Zavala 1-4 with a HR
Fulmer 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
Skole with 2 HRs. He has 17 on the season - tied for the league lead.

Madrigal’s advancement surprised me. Not in a bad way. And not because I disagree with the Sox, either. But I guess they figure he needs the challenge. And let’s not let a lack of home runs be any sort of indicator of how well Madrigal is performing at Birmingham, given Regions Field’s notorious HR-suppressing characteristics.

I wonder how much longer Walker will be kept at Winston-Salem.

And I also wonder how much time at A/A+ Vaughn will get.

Madrigal, Walker, and Vaughn, are about the last of the position players who figure to hit the majors in time for the beginning of the projected contention window. We can probably add Burger to that group only because of his lost development time.

After that, we’re looking at position players who wouldn’t be likely to hit the majors before 2023, if at all.

Eloy graduates from the MLB Pipeline prospect list, having accumulated sufficient MLB plate appearances.

Robert is now our top prospect and #17 overall.

Given additional graduations of other clubs’ prospects, plus his own meteoric rise, expect Robert to be in the Top 10, and maybe even the Top 5, soon.

Kopech and Cease are right behind Robert at #19 and #21. Madrigal (#43) is the only other guy in the top 100. Vaughn should join them after he signs.

While only having 5 of the top 100 is less than we've been accustomed to the past couple years, it's still better than "average", and you can't forget about all the young talent on the major league team as well. I wonder where the Sox would rank on a list of the "top talent age 26 and under" or something like that, I imagine it would be right near the top.

I am a bit surprised Collins hasn't made a return to the top 100. He's been OPS over .900 all season at AAA.

Collins is all the way down at #11, behind all the Birmingham outfielders. I imagine this is due to the uncertainty about his future position and defensive ability.

Luis Robert is day-to-day after suffering a non-serious “non-contact injury.” Whatever that may be.

@BhamBarons
Barons outfielder Luis Robert exited tonight's game with one out in the ninth inning after an apparent non-contact injury.

It is not considered to be serious and he is listed as day-to-day ahead of Birmingham's upcoming series against Mobile.

This is also a prove it season for Collins. He has been so completely disappointing since we drafted him, to a lot of the evaluators, they are going to need to see a full year of this and show it isn't just one of his hot streaks where he then goes on a 2 month .600 OPS run.

MLB Pipeline updates their overall Top 100 list, and individual team Top 30 lists, after the draftees are incorporated, typically during the minor league all star breaks. So it will be a few more weeks.

So I’d expect Collins to leapfrog some of those AA OFs.

Yes, we have fewer players in the top 100 now, but we've also had players like Moncada, Eloy, and Giolito "graduate" from prospect status to the majors.

I believe Dunning was a Top 100 prospect last year, but of course his status took a hit when he got sidelined with Tommy John surgery.

Basabe is back in action for game 2. They’ve got him hitting 3rd and Gonzalez has been dropped to 7th.
