Probably, and/or getting his mechanics perfected (which is always a tougher task for tall pitchers like Hansen). Heís probably focusing on command, and once that is good he will add velocity when he needs it.

2017, as solid A with all the collection of talent. But 2018 has been miserable. Starting with the injuries and lost time, to the struggles of all the key pieces already at or near the ML level.

Let's hope the 2nd half shows a huge turnaround.
I wouldn't go as low as D. Yes, it's been disappointing to see Moncada, Kopech, and Giolito struggle.....and the numerous injuries to top prospects have been a big disappointment. But, many prospects are having pretty good seasons. Collins, Rutherford, Adolfo, and Cease have done well. Eloy continues his march toward the majors and at least his injury is supposed to only keep him sidelined for a couple of weeks. A number of lesser-hyped prospects have had great seasons as well: Flores, Stephens, Gonzalez, Forbes, Battenfield. A few potential future bullpen assets have done well: Fry, Hamilton, Vieira (who has turned things around after a poor start).

No disputing that having so many top prospects miss significant parts of the season due to injuries really does suck, but I'm hopeful that most of those injuries will not impact the ultimate success of those players.

I am happy with where we are and would give it a B. While I am very disappointed with Giolito and Fulmer, especially after their strong finishes last year, I feel there's been some growth with Anderson and Lopez. Moncada showed what he can do before the injury and I expect the ups and downs. If he is still "bleh" throughout 2019, then I will be pissed.

Meanwhile, in the minors, we have many guys performing well and some surprises. You can't control the injuries, but other than their growth delay, the potential for all of those guys has not changed one bit in my eyes. Remember! The first stage of the rebuild (trading everything we possibly could to restock the system) just ended last July. In my opinion, we need to be ready for 2-3 years of shxt before we see some success.

Finally, this year's performance means we likely have another year of a top five pick. We need to realize that a good chunk of these prospects WILL flame out. The more high value picks we have, the better the chance of success.

If your pessimism is solely based on your lack of trust in Sox management, then their is nothing I can say to that, because these guys aren't going anywhere......Maybe become a Cubs fan?

But only one walk. The stuff will play if he's consistently in the zone.

Overall- I'd give it a B- so far.

I think the "ceiling" of this group of prospects seems a little riskier at this stage than it looked a few months ago- multiple injuries to Eloy and Robert, lack of progress on command by Kopech, Giolito's rough first half, Fulmer's free fall, Burgers multiple ruptures of his achilles, Hansen's forearm issues and Dunning's elbow issues. injuries to Cordell and Puckett ...all disappointments.

BUT, I think the "floor" for this group is higher than a few months ago- some of of the surprises at Kanny like Rivera, Battenfield along with the great 1st half by Gonzalez. Surprises at WS- like Booker and Flores, along with Rutherford and Cease's great 1st halves, some promising production by Sheets and Basabe and Call's improvements vs. last season. At Birmingham- Collins has stabilized a bit as a hitter, Zavala had a nice 1st half- Adams and Stephens with nice first halves, along with Ian Hamilton.

2018 draft picks look promising.

Most of the bad news is related to injuries...if they are "blips", then I think this rebuild will really start to pick up momentum in the 2nd half and coming out of spring training next season.

Sad story about Kopech's cousin getting killed in a car accident at age 21 last month. The article says the cousin moved into Kopech's home at age 11 after the death of his mother.

Wow. This certainly explains a lot. He should talk with Tim Anderson to see how he worked through a similar experience.

Sox claimed the Twins Ryan LaMarre, outfielder.

Doesn't make sense unless Avi is about to go on the DL yet again.

Good night yesterday for a number of prospects down on the farm:

Dash -
Gonzalez: 1 for 4
Rivera and Rutherford each: 2 for 5, 2 2B

Dylan Cease and Luis Basabe are the Sox representatives in the futures game.

Kudos. You called it, Lip. Avi back to the DL and LaMarre activated.

LaMarre is not out of options, so he can rack up frequent flier miles to and from Charlotte until September.

Two pitching prospects who have had great seasons so far take the mound tonight in the Sox system:

Flores at B'ham
Battenfield at W-S

Nice to see both guys doing well. Sheets started out slow, if I'm not mistaken, but he's been racking up the hits lately. I know the knock on both guys is that they've shown little HR power to date, but I'm willing to be patient and see if they develop more power over time.

I'll say it again, if either of these guys develop into a .280 hitter with 40 doubles, that will work just fine for me.
