At least we won our opener right after our title year.

LOL!

And with that loss they can't surpass the 2005 Sox 1-162 first place.

I recommend steering clear of The SCORE all day Monday (and all 2017) unless you want to endure nonstop talk about the historic greatness of the 2017 Cubbies and how the got screwed by the home plate ump in the bottom of the 9th.

Rosenbloom's article last week (I think Friday) was hilarious. According to him, they should have just handed the 2017 WS title to the Cubs. Because no one can beat them with that lineup.

It's going to be a long season

The Pirates just swept their series at Wrigley. Can't wait to hear the panic after this.

There shouldn't be...that division is so putrid the Cubs can start printing playoff tickets tomorrow (short of a plane crash or natural disaster...)

The only thing going against them is that it's very hard to repeat a WS Championship, its usually the pitching that doesn't hold up after pitching those extra post season innings the year before.
IIRC for the Sox in 06, both the hitting and the pitching hit the skids August and September.
Last team to repeat were the Yankees in 1998 and 1999.

They also won in 2000.

I'm not talking about winning the World Series...I'm talking about getting back to the post season which they'll probably be doing for the next several years given they'll have no competition in that bad division.

I have to agree. That division is brutal. The Pirates and Cards are pseudo contenders and the Brewers and Reds are in rebuild. The Cubs would have to fall off a cliff not to make the postseason.

So now the Cubs pitching coach is accusing a Brewer of juicing. Sour grapes.

While we're at it, why don't we test Jake "Pilates" Arrieta?

Imagine the Cubbie-loving media and fan outrage IF an opponent accused them and then used that weak "I'm not saying, I'm just saying..." method of making the accusation.

I loved this comment on Deadspin:
Quote:
How did (Lackey) go from a 6.41 ERA (!) with 108 K’s at age 32 to a 2.77 ERA with 180 K’s at age 36 with the Cubbies? It’s certainly a head-scratcher.

Great point. I mean, look how sensitive they are to EVERYTHING the Cardinals or Matheny says about the Cubs. I mean, they recently flew off the handle when Matheny made a joke about Maddon's stupid T shirts. It was such a bush league comment by both Lackey and Bosio.

Also, imagine how different this story would be covered locally if say, Don Cooper and Jose Quintana were accusing an opposing player of juicing in a not so subtle way. My morning edition Sun Times made no mention of the Bosio/Lackey accusation.

The Reds had a bandwagon cam last night. Good to know at least one other team remembers we were champions not long ago.
