Post The Chicago Dogs

Minor league baseball is coming to Rosemont. The Chicago Dogs of an independent league called the American Association begin play in May at a brand new 6,300 ballpark called Impact field. Some of the teams in the American Association used to play in the Northern League when it was in existence. It sounds like another way to see Minor League Baseball in the area in addition to the Kane County Cougars, Schaumburg Boomers, Joliet Slammers, Windy City Thunderbolts, and Gary SouthShore Railcats.

Nice to have another baseball team- but you can't pay me to intentionally drive into the O'Hare area unless I have to catch a flight.

I have to wonder how many minor league teams the area can support. Several years ago, the Schaumburg and Joliet teams went belly up and were replaced by new franchises.

It looks like this new team will play in the same league as the Gary Railcats. Schaumburg, Joliet, and Crestwood play in a separate independent league (Frontier League). Kane County is a Class A affiliate of a major league team (currently the Diamondbacks).

It looks like the new Chicago Dogs park will be near the existing park for the Chicago Bandits - a women's pro softball team.

The park is right off Balmoral and River road.Probably about 3/4 of a mile from the Rosemont Blue line.Don't know of any Pace buses going directly to the field as the Wolves have with Pace but it's the closest Minor Leauge team to Chicago now replacing Schaumburg who has a stadium 1 block from the Metra Schaumburg station. Can the area support another team?Probably at least for the first season and if the concessions are reasonably priced.
