Alec Hansen is progressively looking like a move to A+ will work better for him.

Than Dunning? I still worry about Hansen's control and offspeed repertoire. He's not going to just blow away batters with his fastball in A+ and beyond. I'd like to see another month in A ball and then a promotion in July. The influx of players from the draft will allow some reshuffling.

Gosh no. I like Dunning a LOT. I think Dunning has potential because it seems like control will be less of issue for him. That seems to be a problem for some of our higher end prospects in the organization at the moment. He is one of the few without the bug.

I do agree on Hansen in terms of his control. I wouldn't say that an immediate move is necessary, but if he continues going at this pace, he does deserve promotion. There is definitely enough of a difference between A and A+ to merit wondering whether he can handle hitters with an improved hit tool.

I actually am happier with this line than his no hitter. The K's mean was dominating hitters.

It looks like his changeup was working, which gives him an effective 3rd pitch besides the fastball and curve. His velocity is still not where it needs to be though. I don't have much confidence in him becoming an effective major league pitcher if his fastball averages 89- 91.

My question is why it is at 89-91 in the first place?

Indeed. It's so weird when a guy just loses 4- 5 mph off their fastball with no apparent injury. Giolito did have Tommy John in 2012, but that should be behind him.

I still think its all these mechanical adjustments. But that may be a hope.

He is finally showing some command of his pitches. He had both variations of his curve going for a change last night.

I read somewhere else than he was 92-95 last night which gave me some hope (along with the 11 strikeouts of course). Was he really only at 89-91? Anyway, he can still be a dynamite reliever with his current trio of pitches even if the FB never comes back. I actually think Giolito has one of the highest floors of anyone in the system. I just have a hard time not seeing him being effective one way or another in the bigs.

EDIT: Just watched some video and he was indeed firing a lot of high 80s fastballs up there. Quite a far cry from the guy who once had the highest graded fastball of any prospect in the game. It's like he and Lopez are moving in opposite directions, w/ Reynaldo's FB going from 88-90 a few years ago to 94-100 now with some wiggle. Pitching prospects, am i right?

In other news, 11:0 K:BB for Dunning in 5 IP today. Not too shabby.
