Actual subheading from chicagosports.com:

" the Detroit Tigers handed the first-place White Sox another costly loss"

Did anyone tell that writer that our chance of making the playoffs actually went up today, in spite of the loss?

Duked!!
Gritty, classy Cubs battle hard, put up 3-spot on Ace in Waiting in loss to Pirates

Duke: I could see myself in a Cubs uniform

CHICAGO-- They could have just as easily mailed it in. Or gone through the motions lethargically. But the Cubs valiantly battled on toward October and pulled out all the stops Tuesday night, banging out three runs against future star Zach Duke and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Settling For Less
Sox give up on winning, focus on rooting for Devil Rays to deliver postseason berth

The part about being in a "Cubs uniform" would be a seperate story all together. And the "future star Zach Duke" would instead read, " future Cubs star Zach Duke" and probably a sub-headline that read "Duke dominant at Wrigley, once Duke becomes a Cub, the best rotation in the history of baseball is complete!"

Heart of a Champ !
"Bulldog" Maddux brilliant, comes up just short in 5-3 loss to improving Bucs.
-Shouldn't affect his divine quest for 15 W's in '05
-There's still hope, as Cardinals & Marlins lose, N.L. Central, Wilcard still up for grabs

In Metro- Eric Zorn relates his days' experiences waiting on the phone trying to buy Cubbies post season tix

Disgruntled Crede abandons team just when sinking Sox need him most. Sox week in review coming Sunday in TempoWoman.
