The Sox are rumored to be in the mix for Marcell Ozuna, but he wouldn't come cheap.

Yuck. Already 29, puts up “meh” numbers at the plate, plays “meh” defense, hits righty, and would have to change positions.

That would be Melky 2.0, only with a little more value in the bat.

Spend that money on a pitcher instead.

I agree.

Agree on no to Ozuna. Way too streaky of a hitter. He can get hot and carry a team for a week and then go ice cold for a couple weeks. Also can be a butcher in the outfield.

Reads like yet another agent-induced rumor to create interest in his client.

This is why I ignore hot stove rumors. Nothing is true until the kid and the GM are sitting at a table before the press with his new team's jersey and hat on announcing the "great signing we had" and "I've always wanted to play for the XYZ team."

I like Ozuna. The White Sox need a corner outfielder and name a better one available via the FA market. He is significantly better than Puig and Castellanos.

Ozuna is likely to be hit with a QO by the Cardinals. If so this would decrease his value on the FA market. I wouldn't overpay for Ozuna, obviously, but he is one of my top FA targets for the Sox this offseason.

EDIT: Just clicked through and saw the rumor...yeah I don't think Ozuna is worth or will get 7 years/$170 million. But I'd be happy to pay him for a shorter term than that.

Depends on the reporter IMO. Nightengale is a mouthpiece for certain front offices. I trust people like Rosenthal, though.

And add me to the no on Ozuna train. That's way too much for mediocrity.

Top pursuers of Gerrit Cole this offseason will be the Angels and Yankees. It means we're gonna have to really pony up if we want a shot at getting him.

He is a hell of a lot better than anyone we have out there now and you need to pay the going rate if you want to get better. I believe a lot of the posters here have caught JR fever and want to hold on to their dollars for a pie in the sky signing. The Sox need to sign 2 starters and they need to be either 1 or a 2 and a corner outfielder and a DH. They also need to beef up the bullpen. Hopefully they will get them through trades or JR opens his wallet and doesn’t settle for being a also ran for signings!

For what it's worth Stone was on the score and said there was a 99.7% chance the Sox won't sign Cole but will "spend a lot of money" this offseason.

The Sox don't need a corner outfielder, they need a right fielder. Luis Robert could be Willie Mays, that would still be a bad outfield defense with Eloy in left and Ozuna in right.

So he's saying there's still a chance.
