It would be nice, for sure. We should really be pulling for guys like him, Soria, Cedeno, etc. right now.

Agreed.

And I do so knowing full well that:

1. The Sox donít have a lot of prospects who are ready for promotion to Chicago;

2. Dealing serviceable veterans means their replacements are likely to perform worse, and the losses again will mount;

3. 2019 is likely to be another losing season;

4. #2 and #3 above will lead even greater numbers of Sox fans to proclaim ďthe rebuild has failed!Ē

I always thought 2018 would be ďrock bottom,Ē but I never bought the hype that the Sox would contend for a wild card spot in 2019, and a World Series in 2020. If it does happen, Iíll be elated, but I donít expect it and therefore have not set up myself for disappointment.

But though FRATER laughed openly, he wept secretly; and really he neither laughed nor wept. Nor did he mean what he said.

Like you said before, package him with Abreu, Soria, and a boatload of cash. The problem is that I don't trust ownership to include the necessary funds to secure a better return. I think it's more likely that the Abreu trade would be the only true "blockbuster" trade, and they would trade Shields, Soria, and other possible candidates individually to whichever teams pick up the most remaining salary, prospect quality be damned.
