Wouldn't this be nice?

He deserves it. Forever underappreciated.

He's without question the best first baseman in the AL. He deserves it, and I hope he gets the nod, although I'm bracing for the possibility that he'll get screwed because people don't like the team he plays for.

100 RBIs every year with little help around him. Underappreciated is a good word to describe Abreu.

All Star voters have definitely gotten smarter the last few years. Hopefully Jose keeps playing well, represents the Sox in DC, and gets sent off for a few nice prospects at the deadline.

Moreland has been really good, but he hasn't played every day like Abreu has. At this point in time, voting for anyone other than Abreu for AL 1B would be a mistake.

I'm not so sure the fans have as much of a say anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised if teams were fed up with some of the voting.

For years I've said fans shouldn't be allowed to vote because it has turned into a popularity contest and that all teams should not have to have a representative.

Why should a more deserving player get screwed because a bad, bad team has to have someone go?

Some people get screwed because of the fan vote putting in a sixth starter from _____ popular team who doesnít deserve it. Others are screwed because they grab a player from a team with no real All-Star. The MLB wants some type of draw appeal from each market. Bottom line, it isnít a true best players game.

Very true...which is why I haven't watched a game in 35 years. Probably the 83 Comiskey Park one was the last time.

Itís not saying much, but MLB still has the best all star game of the four major sports. The other three are just light exhibitions.

Definitely.

Although I do have a soft spot for the NHL skills competition.

All the other All Star games are a joke.

This is the first time since 1996 (Frank Thomas) that a White Sox player has led in voting -- any position.

Just seems to me like 15, 20 years ago, everyone just voted straight ticket for their favorite team. Lots of Yankees, lots of Red Sox, etc. These days, you can be elected to the All Star team playing in a place like Colorado or Arizona. Fans notice who is having a good year statistically and actually vote for them.

Thank you, MLB Network, for rescuing throngs of baseball fans from the intellectual laziness and shameless bias that defined ESPNís national baseball coverage for decades.
