Correct. If he opts out, he negotiates a new contract with someone. It can be front-loaded, back-loaded, whatever.

Sure, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that he's going to top $100M over 4. Another thing to keep in mind...His current deal is heavily deferred. He's owed $100 million for the next four seasons, but by the end of the deal he'll only see $60M of it. $40M of it is paid over the next five years after the deal. So it's worth a lot less. It's an easy opt out for him. |

Are front-loaded contracts actually a thing? Like, anyone who has taken an introductory finance class can tell you that the Sox SHOULD be front-loading deals to FAs right now and FAs should be preferring those deals, but I can't think of a single deal where a guy earns like $35 million in year 1 and $15 million in year 5.
Does the union not allow that? |

would be fine for a DH but nothing else. Dickerson is regressing into backup territory. Grandal is going to cost a fortune for above average production. The only this team wins a bidding war for Cole or Strasburg is if they were embarrassed enough by the entire nation making fun of their half-assed efforts to get Machado last offseason. |

I was high on Puig earlier but he sucked this year. I don't care about his off the field stuff, just as a hitter he has not been good this year. Marcel Ozuna is the outfield FA I want.

The obvious answer for RF is Avisail Garcia.

The obvious answer to what? How to fill the position without considering good baseball players?

I've been to many game at the old Metrodome. A three year old in a wheelchair can get a hit in that place. He is playing where he should be, it will earn him good money. |

Not bad for what would be a bridge to the near future.
