Sox Sign Matt Lindstrom

Throws a split and a heater just like Myers but his fastball clocks in about 2 mph quicker than Myers at 95-96. This is pretty much exactly what we needed. I also like short term deals for relievers. Now get one more impact bat.

It is kind of strange going into ST with no open spots in the bullpen. I am not complaining but it looks like all these spots are almost set in stone.

Carlos Sanchez has zero chance of being a bench player. He's starting somewhere...either Charlotte or Chicago later in the season. Angel Sanchez, being a veteran and a Rule 5 guy, he's making the team.

I'd say Wise is a lock to make the team. Danks and Tekotte will compete for the last spot, but they'll lean toward Danks, because of defense, and well, because his name is Danks.

Lindstrom has a great arm. He has a fastball that can touch 100 mph and he has a big breaking slider to go with it. The former Mets farmhand has tried to learn a splitter and will mix those in occasionally. Lindstrom has been given a few chances to be a closer, but can't quite hold down the job. 6/7/11
[fastball(92-98), slider(80-86), splitter(85-89)] This is a year old maybe some of his secondary pitches have improved. We also have Coop.

Ryan is coming off a mediocre year. Doesn;t hit for power.

To those who want Hahn to acquire a left-handed hitter with some power:

1. Who should Hahn target?

2. Who should Hahn trade to acquire this player?

It seems to me that left-handed power is becoming more scarce; those teams that have such a hitter worth acquiring won't trade it for what the Sox can offer, without making it, at best, a lateral move for the Sox.

Do we really need Leftie power? Can't we get a leftie who hits to all fields and gets on base? Between Dunn Konerko Rios think we have enough power guys.

Hahn seems to be building a team that scores 3 or 4 a game, get the lead and let the pen shut you down.

The only thing I can't figure out about Lindstrom (nice arm, signed to a short, affordable contract), is why it took until the third week in January for someone to sign this guy.
