They have a surplus of some high quality outfielders. If they sign Darvish or Arrieita and flip an O/F for a Starter, Cub fans can make plans for October that does not involve watching Cub games......

They should totally snag Darvish, or Arrietta if they can't grab him. Good on the Brewcrew for going for it.

My "meatball' side wants Milwaukee to sign Arrieta. This way the Cubs fans loathe over it all season and since he is in the Central it will be a good many time they get to whine about it. Even Cobb would be somewhat fun since the Cubs signed the Tampa pitching coach to "guarantee" that Cobb would go there.

Mookie Betts won his arbitration hearing. He filed at $10.5 million, while the Red Sox filed at $7.5 million.

With Betts getting $10.5 million and Kris Bryant settling for $10.85 million as first-year arbitration players, I think the White Sox really lucked out with Jose Abreuís $13 million settlement as a second-year arbitration player.

Saw a tweet where Matt Albers has apparently agreed to a two year deal with the Brewers.

Former Sox catcher Alex Avila signed with Arizona. The Albers and Avila deals could break the logjam.

When he was traded to the Sox, he was destined to be a 4 year $60 million player by this time.

I guess seeing the market and how it's gone across the board, he should feel lucky to even get a multi year deal at this point.

Between the frigid market and Frazierís precipitous decline in performance, who can say how many millions of dollars Frazier lost?

Fatolo lives! It's kind of a cool story that the guy wants to keep pitching.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2...00-free-agents

We're totally going to have a work stoppage.

The MLBPA's years of ensuring older players got overpaid while passed their primes (and not pushing for their underpaid younger players to make more) has finally hit a head. The MLB owners cries of being too poor to compete has completely been exposed. Scott Boras is just fanning the flames at this point.

Let players start free agency sooner, end the luxury tax, end the draft-compensation rules, and you'll see players making more money albeit at an earlier age. There is no reason why a 32 year old who is just above average should make more than a 22 year old who is good and can have 10 great years ahead of him.
