Yellich would be a good comparison.
Eaton is more productive than a gold glover that hit .312 with 37 homers and 124 rbi?

To be fair in their best seasons they were both 6 WAR players, so I wouldn't say that one is more productive than the other. Very true about the contracts...

Regardless of Machado or trading Abreu or Garcia... the White Sox need to sign some relievers and at least one starter in order to even field a team next year. Those guys are flying off the board now so the Sox need to get to it with a few of them.

Zach Cozart, three year deal with the Angels, who have been very busy this off season.

And Carlos Santana leaves the Indians for a three year 60 million dollar deal with the Phillies.

Over on MLB is states that the Angels are stacked.

As for Sanatana, it seems half of the Indian fans are not worried about his departure. Encarnacion may move there or perhaps Chisenhall?

Huge deal tonight between the Dodgers and Braves with Matt Kemp going back to the Dodgers and Adrian Gonzales, Scott Kazmir and Brandon McCarthy going to the Braves.

The Dodgers did it purely for financial reasons.

Which prompted this story that while MLB is now a 10 Billion dollar business, the players are getting less and less of a share of it...and part of the blame lies with the MLBPA!:

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/th...s-dump-salary/

This gets the Dodgers (and Yankees who signed CC Sabathia back tonight for 10 million) UNDER the tax threshold.

Which means both of those "super teams" will actually be able to compete for the cream of the free agent class next season...which hurts the White Sox.

Absolutely ****ing crazy.

That just goes to show WAR is a flawed stat. Certainly an interesting one, but you can't say these two players are both six war players and conclude they are equally productive. That much is clear.

Since Santana’s contract was over $50 million, the Indians receive a much better compensatory pick. Instead of picking between Competitive Balance Round B and Round 3, they will pick between Round 1 and Competitive Balance Round A.

I don't think you can just make a blanket statement like that without some sort of justification. WAR is not perfect, but it certainly is more thorough than the "eye test" or other stats that just measure one aspect of a player's performance.

Might be a good by low option to DH and spell Abreu next year, assuming he is healthy.

Speaking of Abreu...the Red Sox just announced signing Mitch Moreland to a two year deal. He plays first base. To me this says they are "all in" on J.D. Martinez.

Also Dodgers trying to unload Matt Kemp but finding no takes. They may have to include prospects and / or salary money to get someone to nibble.

Adrian Gonzales by the way said he'll play for the minimum but he wants to keep playing. Ideally near his San Diego home.
