Default Chuck Swirsky sucks

Anyone that complains about Benetti should have to listen to Swirsky do tonight's game, and then the replay right after. He's not a baseball announcer (although I can't listen to him do Bulls games either), and his voice is grating. He asks Stone WAY too many questions - it's like he knows nothing about baseball. I had to switch it for a minute and watch the freaking US Open match.

Sounded like he wasn't prepared whatsoever to do a broadcast tonight.

I'm gonna say it's safe to say Steve Stone felt the same way. The tension was palpable when Swirsky alleged that Stone and Luis Tiant pitched in the same "era." Steve responded, "He was a little bit before me." Though as far as I can tell, Luis Tiant was pitching in the league for the entirety of Stone's career.

It was like there wasn't even a game going on, as Swirsky spent endless time exploring the inside minutia of baseball with Stone and Garfein. How many innings did he spend asking questions about how scouting works?

Is it really asking too much to ask these guys to pay attention to the game?

Stone must have felt like his partner was an annoying five year old. "Why?" "Why? "Why?"

He was awful. Just a slight notch below Benetti. Like if Jason is a 3, Chuck is a 2.5.

Didn't Swirsky once ask Stone, during a game, whether he was a Republican or a Democrat? I seem to remember Boers & Bernstein playing the clip on their show and laughing hysterically over it.

This would have been in 2013 or 2014 while filling in for Hawk.

Next weekend's broadcast should be solid since Andy Masur is the fill in.

I suppose it’s somewhat cool that the Sox have an announcer who also gets national exposure doing college football and basketball, but it’s going to be a bummer if there’s a September in the future with exciting meaningful games in a tight race and Benetti has to bolt every weekend to go do a football game.

Iím not positive, but Iím guessing if the Sox are ever back in the thick of a pennant race, Benneti would likely be sticking with the team for those ballgames.

Benetti in hot water with Auburn fans tonight.

I did hear his apology on air in the 3rd quarter and wasn't entirely sure what it was about until I found this about him unintentionally making light of the student section paying tribute to the team's radio announcer who tragically died over the summer, and Benetti thinking the Ron reference was to his broadcast partner from tonight's game. Twitter ate him and ESPN alive.

Since I reason that Benetti is a good dude, I'm sure he feels horrible and that this unintentional gaffe will be something that bothers him for a while.

Oh man, youíre describing what is probably the closest Iíll ever get to my dream of him leaving for good.

I seem to remember reading that Benetti had an existing contract with ESPN to do college football, and that when it expires, he won't do football during White Sox season anymore. Anybody else remember that?

I was a doubter, but maybe, just maybe we can win with pitching, defense and fundamentals.

Since Benetti should have been there at least on Friday, I'm not sure how he didn't catch on to this. It's a little different when you're announcing for the same set of teams all the time (e.g. Gene Deckerhoff does both Florida State and Tampa Bay games) but when you're going all over the country to do games (Benetti did the Fresno State/USC game last week), getting on the ground and familiarizing yourself with the teams, the environment, etc. becomes more crucial.

I don't think you'll see him make the same kind of mistake again.
