Default *Official* "Well, that sucked" 7/10 vs. STL Postgamer

Another subpar Covey outing, another bullpen dumpster fire, another prospect lost for a considerable amount of time.

The ledge is starting to look pretty tempting, not gonna lie.

Bruce Rondon should never pitch for this club again. You can't throw 12 of 14 pitches for balls and expect to keep your job. I expect news of this sort by tomorrow morning.

Seemed to have a good crowd tonight.

That's about the only thing you can say that went well.

As for the rest...typical ****.

Unfortunately, seems that at least half of that crowd was Cardinals fans. Listening to the radio, and there were loud cheers after every Cardinal hit and run scored.

Were well on our way to the #3 pick next year. Based on the quality of their last several draft classes - including and especiallly 2018s class - I expect another nice haul from the 2019 draft.

I know its not much consolation right now, but multiple years of feeding at the draft trough is how Houston has become such a juggernaut and provides a decent blueprint - albeit not a guarantee - for long-term success.

Quite a few of us thought this team could win 70 games this year. That's pure fantasy at this point. Maybe it always was fantasy, but even 60 wins would be a stretch. There is just so little credible pitching in place, and disturbingly, certain pitchers are regressing. Even Jace Fry, who has been a bright spot for the most part, has caught the suck bug.

Between the horrible performance of the big-league team, the lack of progress by the first wave of prospects to arrive in the majors and the injury bug biting hard at lower levels, it's been a bad year for the Sox organization.

Sox now have four pitchers on the active roster with an ERA of over 5.50! Yikes.

Covey was not helped by crappy defense and he got severely squeezed by the HP ump.

There are just so few positive things to take away from this season.

White Sox- Rodon's comeback from shoulder surgery, Anderson's improved defense, walk rate, stolen bases, Lopez' first full season in the bigs w/decent results, Jace Fry emerging as a bullpen arm.

Charlotte- Adams, Stephens and Hamilton doing well after being promoted from AA.

Birmingham- Flores and Cease doing well after being promoted from A+, Booker doing well, Collins having a nice season with the bat.

Winston Salem- Gavin Sheets having a nice season, Gonzalez and Rivera doing well since being promoted, Rutherford hitting over .300 with increased power, Forbes hitting almost .300 (age 21).

The injuries suck- but other than Burger, nothing that looks to be career threatening- and alot of guys with question marks entering 2018 are doing well.

Only thing I would question would be "Anderson's improved defense..." He made his 13th error last night on a fairly easy play. His concentration, like Moncada's, comes and goes. That is an issue I would say.

Maybe it improves when (if) the team improves.

Anderson's defense has actually taken a pretty nice step up this year by most metrics, almost everything has him as either neutral or a slight net positive at SS. I've always thought the concerns about his defense were a bit overblown. He has made more than a few boneheaded errors, so to the eye test he seems like he's got a lot of work to do. But he's also so strong and athletic that a lot of the "routine" plays he makes aren't actually so routine. He leads all MLB shortstops in "out of zone plays made" by a significant margin, so I think it's fair to say that those few bad mental errors are overshadowing the fact that he's pretty good overall because they're much more visible. Long story short, I think he's already a pretty decent shortstop, those kinds of errors are just preventing him from being a REALLY good one, and I think it's reasonable to expect the concentration and readiness to improve a little over time.
