Default The future of the minor leagues

Will the White Sox follow Houston's model for their minor league system?

I would love to see minor league baseball scaled back, starting with the duration of time that teams can keep players in the minors. I would like to see a 5-year maximum: Rule 5 eligibility after 3 years (currently 4 years or 5 years, depending on age at signing) and 2 option years (currently 3 years).

Why? When someone is ready for The Show, bring him up. Otherwise, what's the rush?

Your plan would result in a lot of players heading to the independent leagues since they will lose their MLB eligibility. The only winners in that scenario are the fans of the independent teams who will see an uptick in the talent.

Those guys in the minors get paid peanuts. 5 years in the minors is enough. If it means that go-nowhere guys like Juan Minaya and Dylan Covey are out of my life a little bit sooner than they otherwise would be, thatís a consequence Iím willing to accept.
