Default 2017 Division and Wild Card Races

The Nationals become the first team this year to lock up a playoff spot by clinching the NL East title.

This marks the first time that the franchise has made the playoffs in consecutive seasons. Now, only two MLB teams have never made the playoffs in back to back seasons. One is the Marlins. I bet you can guess the other franchise that has never accomplished this.

It will be interesting to see how the Nationals handle this, personally, I would put my foot off the gas and keep the 2 seed and take my chances with the NL Central winner. Chances are Arizona will come out of that wild card spot and they look like the most dangerous team now. Or they could go for home field the whole way. Another interesting stat is that the 1998 Yankees (and 1975 Reds if that counts) are the only team(s) to win a world series after being the first to clinch a division title.
Edit: the Royals and the Cubs did it the past two years.

The Twins become the first team in MLB history to make the playoffs the year after losing 100 games (103 losses in 2016 to be exact)
