Remember, the highly touted outfield prospects (outside of Eloy) are not the 2019 alternative to Avi—guys like Leury Garcia, Daniel Palka, and Nick Delmonico are.

As Hahn himself said the kids in the minor leagues will determine when they come up to the big club. They may force the issue and force the Sox to finally get rid of those guys as well although Palka may be a good guy to keep for his bat off the bench.

None of them are forcing the issue in 2019, though.

That you think...as of right now in July the year before. We'll see, you are probably right but it is not an absolute.

These are the outfielders on mlbpipeline.com’s Top 30 Prospects list for the White Sox. None of them will break camp next March as starting major league outfielders:

Luis Robert
Blake Rutherford
Micker Adolfo
Luis Basabe
Ryan Cordell
Luis Gonzalez

Eloy will be up here, and so will Avi, and someone from our current collection of “meh” outfielders will play CF.

Another one bites the dust. Add MiGo to the list.

At some point you have to fire the training staff, right?
These guys obviously are not ready to play.

Ryan Cordell could absolutely break camp as a starting outfielder next year. He was in competition to make the club this year in spring training. Also had he not gotten hurt in April, he likely would have been called up to the majors already.

He'll be 27 next year, so I'm not counting on the guy to be a stud. Although I think there's a good chance he can be our starting CF next year.

The other players I totally agree will not be starting the year in the majors. In fact I think it's likely we wont see any of them until 2020. Besides Cordell who is in AAA, there's Basabe who was just called up to AA, and the rest are in A+. Robert and Gonzalez just got called up to A+, a few weeks ago.

No.

We get 1% of the information about the player's health. We cannot make assumptions about what the training staff is and is not doing. Given the huge investment the team makes in the players (tens of millions of dollars), I have no doubt the staff stays on top of the latest developments in the field of sports medicine.

I certainly would hope so but as you know both I and Harry Chappas have heard differently in this regard.

A 34 year old pitcher with a history of various injuries has shoulder problems and that ends up as a “see told you so” about how bad the training staff is? Ok.

With Avi and Eloy on the corners you'd better find the next Gary Maddox (and some extra training staff).

Those three are the alternative?

Defensive shift - Anderson drops back 50 yards and the center fielder shades to right.

This is the only injury the team has suffered all season.

I suspect Avi may not be around next year but we'll see.
