Default 2020 MLB news, etc.

I figured we could have a catch-all thread for non White Sox related news.

Yankees pitcher Luis Severino is getting TJ surgery. I believe they're down 2 starting pitchers now with Paxton out.

They're down 3, Domingo German will serve an 81-game suspension for domestic violence.

At least they have Cole for about 35 of the 162 games. At his salary, he should start on two day's rest to get in 75+ games.

They've still got Tanaka but after that are into minor leaguers, though they have a few getting ready for their shot. Bet Nova wishes he'd waited a little longer...

I fail to see the reason for teal. They would be royally screwed without Cole.

Imagine how screwed they would be if they lose another starter.

If they have to look outside the organization, they’ll be aiming higher than what we can afford to give up. Too bad Rodon isn’t healthier. I’d still like to find a trade partner for him.

And why would the Sox be dealing pitching, let alone MLB pitching? Even if Rodon was healthy/healthier he'd be in the Sox rotation, not on the block. Especially at $5mil

He’s not an extension candidate and we won’t be getting a draft pick when he leaves in free agency. The most value he has left to the Sox is as trade bait.

The Sox are not in the process of shipping out players who can help that are in the majors with less than 2 years control. They aren't dumping for prospects anymore. Teams trying to make the playoffs don't trade off players they might not resign prematurely just for a middling prospect or 2.

The Sox are not deep at all currently with pitching, they would have had him in the rotation no question if he was healthy. Even with him coming back hopefully in the second half, he will be very much needed depth at SP this season and all of next year.

We’ll see.

I think he’s not in their plans.

Trading him doesn’t necessarily mean prospects. It might mean a healthy reliever with more control, for instance.

It’s all admittedly risky, certainly no “sure thing,” but there is real upside to having Kopech returning in May, and Rodon in July. In particular, right now Rodon has very little trade value, but his value as a second half starter (to replace whomever was the weakest member of the rotation), and/or potentially as a bullpen arm (maybe twice weekly in multi-inning appearances) could be significant to the Sox.

But though FRATER laughed openly, he wept secretly; and really he neither laughed nor wept. Nor did he mean what he said.

Giancarlo Stanton is injured again and might not be ready to start the season: https://twitter.com/joelsherman1/sta...026002962?s=21

What a waste of his prime years. Dude is a HOF talent when healthy but looks like he's going the way of Troy Tulowitzki.

He's not even penciled in as a starter for '21, but they are anticipating him being around for upside depth at SP.
