Of course he will be- since no one ever really gets fired for performance in a Reinsdorf organization- but I would like to see Vizquel in the role (with full authority to build his own coaching staff).
Someone who reads between the lines would tell you Ventura was fired. And we don't know any more about Vizquel's managerial ability than we did about AJ (who was the hot name for a while) or, for that matter, than we knew about Ventura before he was hired, except in our individual heads. That being said, it's sure starting to look a lot like last season on the field. Holy bleep, Joe Maddon is likely to be available!

Ventura wasn’t fired. His contract expired.

Why Vizquel? What has he done to make you think he is any better than Ventura or RR?

And he was told to enjoy his retirement, which I hope he does. Some would say fired. At least not rehired.

Outstanding major league career, high level of credibility with the players, experience managing most of the blue chip prospects as they made their way through Winston Salem/Birmingham, think he would be effective at helping Moncada/Anderson/Madrigal develop as infielders.

If the Sox don't give him the manager role- I think someone gives him the job by 2021.

What a clown car of a game last night- this team is quitting on Rentaria, showing zero discipline- especially mental discipline- the baserunning and the outfield defense are beyond pathetic.

I'd take Garr/Lemon/Washington defensively over Jimenez/Garcia/Palka.

Only the Chicago American League franchise could provide job security to Rentaria and his coaching staff.

An outstanding major league career is not a predictor of success as a manager.

I'll grant you familiarity.

As for credibility, there is some, but it's easily lost when your team doesn't win. His team in Winston-Salem was a juggernaut a year ago, but got swept out of the playoffs by Houston's team. And his team in Birmingham was a colossal underachiever.

OK- so who's your alternative?

Not sure I agree with Birmingham assessment-

I personally would not evaluate a minor league manager by wins and losses, since by definition they don't matter as much as individual player development.

Word has it that Pittsburgh’s clubhouse has been a disaster all year. I would love to see the Pirates do the typical stupid Pirates thing and fire Clint Hurdle.

Well, McEwing’s lineup tonight is infinitely better than anything Renteria has done, and it only took him one ****ing game.

In an interview run before the game, McEwing said he and Renteria worked out the lineups before Renteria went on leave.

I know. The state-run media needs to make sure Ricky gets his props. I’m not buying it.
