Over the years hundreds of minor league players have shown improvement for half a season, and then they regress. It's common.

Again, I wish Walker and Sheets great success. In fact, I think Walker may have a topside potential of Aaron Rowand-like comps. I'm just not as seemingly assured of the ultimate ML success of some of these prospects.
Rowand was a productive MLB player for several of his core years. I'm not expecting them all to turn into All-Stars and if that's the standard then I think you're looking at it wrong. Sox currently have 6 position players either on the team or close to ready who have AS potential (Moncada, Anderson, Eloy, Robert, Madrigal, Vaughn)

Giolito, Lopez, Cease at minimum look like they will develop into solid rotation pieces if not more. Certainly they all have the raw stuff to be AS caliber pitchers. Of course it will depend on how Kopech and Dunning pitch when they return, but the team has plenty of raw young upside.

No one of any importance did anything special or even average.

Kannapolis
Sosa 2/4 HR RBI 2 R
Osik 1/3 RBI BB

Bilous 2.2 IP 1 H 6 BB 3 ER 4 K might have been pulled due to late inning pitch count limit or because he was really wild obviously.
Cronin 3.1 IP 1 H 1 ER 1 BB 1 K

Birmingham won 6-5 in 12.

Basabe 2/5 R RBI BB
Rutherford 2/4 2 BB R

Battenfield 5.0 IP 6 H 3 ER 0 BB 4 K

Chalotte lost 11-2 Durham won so they are tied again. Not sure what happens if they end up tied after tomorrow. Everyone else is eliminated.

Robert 1/4 , RBI HR
Mercedes and Mendick both had doubles.

Kubat 3.1 IP 6 H 4 ER BB 3 K
Thompson got roughed up again 4 H 3 ER
Walsh pitched okay 2.2 IP 3 H 1 ER 3 K
Schryver 1.0 IP 0 H 0 R 2 K

Barons won 3-0

Walker 2/5 2 2B 2 R
Vaughn 1/3 2 BB R 2 RBI
Jonathan Allen 3/5 3 R 4 RBI 2 HR - first game after playing in both rookie leagues this year and skipping Kannapolis. His numbers were not spectacular in rookie ball. He's 22 YO 32nd round draft pick 2019

Kincannon 2.0 IP 3 H 1 ER 0 BB 2 K - guessing he starts next year at AA. His probably final stats this year 3-3 1.86 ERA 42 G 8/10 Saves 58 IP 45 H 26 BB 71 K .208 BAA 1.22 WHIP

Kannapoilis won 5-2

Sosa 1/5
Osik 1/4 R
Zangari 2/3 HR R 3 RBI

Dominguez 6.0 UO 4 H 0 R 2 BB 6 K
Freeman 2.0 UO 3 H 2 ER BB K HR
Conway 1.0 IP 0 H 0 BB 0 R 2 K Save - he's 24 and they tried to have him skip Kannapolis, but he got lit up in April in A+. Then got sent down and got hurt and missed a month. When he came back he's been lights out. He'll be 25 in January so he's got to move quickly if he's going to have any kind of career.

The Knights are scheduled to send right-hander Dylan Covey to the mound for a must-win regular-season finale on Labor Day in Norfolk. In order to make the playoffs, the Knights must beat the Tides and the Durham Bulls must lose to the Gwinnett Stripers on Monday.

Durham jut gave up a bases loaded double and now is down 4-0 in the top of the 5th. Knights have extended to 3-1 in the top of the 6th with men on first and second and one out.

Edit: Gwinnet adds a 2-run bomb and another single and now leads 6-0. Looks good for Charlotte if they can hold on.

Mercedes just doubled to extend the lead to 5-1. Meanwhile Durham loaded the bases with no one out in the 5th but only got one run. They are still losing 6-1. Can't believe Norfolk pitched to Mercedes with first base open and Collins up next and a 29 YO Lefty on the mound who had just schooled Palka - and yep Collins just whiffed.

Gwinnett tacks on two more and it's 8-1.

Matt Foster melted down with 2 outs in the 8th walked two guys and gave up a triple. Charlotte's lead is down to one, 5-4.

Ruiz gives up a double and we're tied at 5.

Edit and a single gives Norfolk the lead.

Can't fault the coaches, they went with their A team and Covey held up his end, but the two best bullpen pieces they've got, Foster and Ruiz couldn't lock it down. Inning finally over Charlotte will send the top of the order to the plate in the 9th needing at least a run.

Robert struck out as Norfolk brought in Tayler Scott who caught his first cups of coffee this year but sucked and is back at AAA where he's been lights out.

Madrigal followed with a single he's now 5-5 on the day with 2 RBI and a run scored so far. Palka up, Mercedes and Collins waiting...
