The jury is out on Rodon, Covey and Giolito, the pen is a giant mess. Fulmer and Hansen are 1-2 years away from their rookie seasons.

We need to load up on pitchers this offseason, project big leaguers and near MLB arms (also take a shot on someone in the Rule V draft) and should invest #3 next year in the best college starter available.

Then after next season we'd have a better idea where we need to fill in with veteran help from FA.
In my opinion the jury has already decided to convict Covey for imitating a major league pitcher. Nothing more to prove from him in my opinion.

I agree here also. Wimpy does a great job, and I really enjoyed it when he showed up this season.

Was it just me, or did anyone else notice that Benetti was way WAY better with Paciorek in the booth than he was with Stone?

It was like night and day to me. When Wimpy was there, there was about 90% less of the inane nonsense that always seems to go on when he's with Stone. And when they did clown around a bit, it wasn't just stupid stuff, for lack of a better way to say it. So much better.
Benetti + Wimpy = awesome

Wimpy plays the cheerleader...no thanks
I've always liked Stone, but he started playing sycophant this year at times...unfortunate.
Benetti is very good on national games...he just needs to find the balance in being a home team announcer. It will take a little time, but he'll find it.

Luis Robert is a CF.

For now. They are still expecting him to fill out a ton. It isn't a certainty he'll be able to maintain the skills necessary to stay there.

I loveeeeee the upside, but can Robert or Basabe just have a good, healthy season in the minors with solid production before we say we don't need more depth at the position?

More depth is always fine but is that the same thing as saying “we don’t have any CF in minors so let’s move Tim there”?

I hope Madrigal gets some reps at 3B.

Agreed. While no prospect is a sure thing (including Robert), there are CF prospects in our system...and some good ones, too.

Plus, didn't Basabe just complete a good, healthy season? Yes, his numbers took a bit of a hit upon promotion to AA, but that seems to be in line with typical adjustment needed by prospects as they move up the ladder. He was a bit young (21 this past season) for AA. So, I'd consider his 2018 season a success.

....and aren't Luis Gonzalez and Steele Walker also CFs?

I hope they keep him at 2B. Scouts say his peak is to be slightly above average with the glove at SS (if he's lucky) and he doesn't have the pop in his bat to play at the corner.

If that's the case, then I hope Moncada gets some reps at 3B during ST!

Great - another corner OF.
Last November, the As traded a minor league pitcher to the Astros for a minor league centerfielder. that CF, Ramon Laureano, has 2.1 WAR in 2018 in 176 at bats. Those are the kind of moves the Sox need to make to BUILD the team - especially as they have no CF. Some will work, others won't. But they should make them in droves. This FO can't be bothered to make any. Not much in July. Ho hum.
