This isn't really a reach. Burger has bee in this middle of the round range for a while.

There's really no such thing as "signability" in the draft any more. Slot numbers dictate everything.

Sure there is, high school kids not getting a high enough or at slot offer and accept their college offer instead.

Hope that getting a college hitter we get someone who can contribute a bit earlier.

From MLB.com:

Quote:
Burger went undrafted out of high school but has blossomed into a college star, finishing second in NCAA Division I with 21 home runs in 2016 and winning Missouri Valley Conference player of the year honors this spring, when he led the league in all three triple crown categories (.341-22-63) entering NCAA tournament play. Though he went homerless with the U.S. college national team during the summer, scouts still recognize Burger as one of the top power sources available in a Draft class short on college hitters. He generates his pop more with strength than bat speed, and there are some worries about an arm bar in his right-handed swing. He controls the strike zone well and makes reliable contact for a slugger, so he should hit for some average as well. While Burger isn't the most graceful player, one scout compared him to Hunter Pence for his ability to get the job done in less than pretty fashion. Despite his large frame, he has average speed out of the batter's box and decent range at third base. With his solid arm, reliable hands and admirable work ethic, he should be able to stay at the hot corner.

I don't really mind the pick. BPA is in the eyes of the beholder I guess.

He's built a bit like Schwarber. Could probably stand to follow a conditioning program.

It was off the White Sox web site.

70 Power, fascinating. This guy has a real good work ethic and a hard player. Even if he ends up at first, at least he has decent height to stay there. This could also help us scoop up a prep who could fall.

Maybe they'll sign him under slot (which they should), and then use the excess on players that drop due to signability. Not sure the FO has the chops for that move, but we'll see.

Why hasn't Seth Beer been drafted?

He's not eligible this year. He's eligible in 2018.

Well a Beer and a Burger in the lineup would be fun one day.

70 power? Where are you seeing that? MLB prospect list has him at a very respectable 55.

I like the pick. We need a 3B. We need more power. Kid has 50 or higher grades across the board including fielding and running... which is particularly good for a big guy. I didn't think they would take him but he was among a handful of players that looked good to me in the reports.

There's a good looking college 1B (Brent Rooker) rated around where our second pick is too.

Wouldn't break my heart any.

Makes contact, high OBP, with huge power. Hopefully he sticks at 3B.

My faves by far were Beck and Haesely (post consensus top 4), they were gone, I'm fine with this pick.

Glad we didn't take Kendall or White.

Not sure if that happens, but I see what you are saying. Did you have your eye on one of the high school pitchers?
