Default Royce Ring Called Up

"Ring came to the Mets organization from the Chicago White Sox in the Roberto Alomar trade two years ago. He was 5-3 with Norfolk and Double-A Binghamton last season."

I thought the Mets released him. Oh well.

Royce Ring for Robbie Alomar. That trade still has me scratching my...head.

A first round draft pick (possibly a poor choice for a first round pick) for a short-term mid-season solution. Is that trade comparable to Garland for Karchner?

Ring has never and will never do much of anything in the majors. Garland is 25 years old and has already won how many MLB games? Not even in the same universe...

That's my point, wasn't Ring a waste of a first-round pick then?

He was drafted because he was signable, and drafted to be traded. I still consider it a waste of a first round pick, but it was a cheap pick that bought some help at the All Star break.

That's not a point. Aside from what Daver said. If you want to call it a bad pick, or one you don't agree with, fine. Few will disagree with you, especially considering, if he was drafted to be traded, all we got was Robby Alomar and he didn't do a whole lot to help us at the time.

However, that's not what you said. You are asking if Ring for Alomar was on the same level as Garland for Karchner. And unfortunately, that's a ridiculous comparison.

Ring was a wasted pick forgetting if he was drafted to be traded or closer of the future. I don't believe he was drafted for either of those reasons but it's a good rationalization for a wasted pick that at least KW was able to dump for a major leaguer for half a season. I doubt that's what he intended though.
