Stewart started for Charlotte and got rocked in 4.2 IP. Fields and Munoz finished up by tossing 3.1 innings with 1 ER (solo HR off Munoz), 4 H, 3 BB, 2 K. Anderson doubled, walked, and scored the Knights' only run. Burke was 2-for-3.

Honel won for B'Ham and gave up only 1 run in 5 innings, despite a bout with wildness (6 BB). Owens was 2-for-4 with a SB and run scored. Gonzalez walked twice and scored. Fields had a PH single. Sweeney sat out again.

Haeger got the win for W-S, giving up only 1 run in 6 IP with 7 Ks. He's now 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA, 15 K, and 3 BB in 14 IP. Dizard and Wasserman finished up, tossing 1-hit ball over 3 IP with 4 K. Valido stayed hot, going 3-for-5 with a 2B and a SB. Schnurstein and Collaro were both 2-for-4. Schnurstein also stole a base. Amador was 1-for-4, lowering his AVE to a mere .343. Nanita only had 1 hit but drove in 2 runs.

Stop the presses; Gio Gonzalez lost a game! His line was still pretty impressive: 5 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 9 K. He also picked off a base runner. All the runs scored in the 5th inning on 3 consecutive singles, a SB, a sac fly, and a passed ball. (Hernandez got the day off.) Gonzalez is now 2-1 with a 1.12 ERA, 28 K, 3 BB, and 7 H in 16 IP. Kanny managed only 3 hits. Hansen was 1-for-3 with a BB. Ricks and Cook each walked twice.

Wow. Gio seems to be following in BMac's shoes from last year. Nice to see, maybe the Sox have a couple of pending aces up their sleeves!

BA's Hot Sheet on Gio:

He's lefthanded, smallish, and has a deep repertoire, and players like that often carve up young hitters. However, it's hard to ignore what last year's supplemental first-round pick has done in three starts with a 28-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 16 innings.

He was drafted just last June and made his way to Kanny for the final couple of months of the season. He's faced that level in the past and had an offseason of work to improve and now he's carving it up. It will be more interesting to see how he does at W-S. Why he started there instead of W-S? Get confidence to start the season before moving on? The lower levels are rich with starting talent from the last 2 drafts, so there aren't a lot of open rotations spots at Kanny or W-S at this time.

Did Liotta start that game? On the box score I see for today's game Egbert is the only pitcher listed, but that site can be unreliable.

Also, Randar, what's up with Whisler? Is he hurt? He's only started the one game.

Liotta started game one of their double header, a 5-4 win over Greensboro. He went 6 innings giving up 8 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, and 1 K, but still got the win today.

I'll have to check on Whisler, haven't heard anything, but now that you mention it, he did miss at least one start.
