7 IP, 4 runs (all earned, all in the third inning). 8 H and 1 HR allowed.

But still a decent outing, with only 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Rex was probably there, so I'm sure he'll comment, but from the Chattanooga Radio broadcast he was getting squeezed all game, and in that inning was completely unable to throw anything but his fastball for a strike. He was pitching from behind in the count all night (VERY UNUSUAL!) and he left 2 fastballs center-cut that inning, one went for an almost HR double, and the other was a rocket liner out of the park to RF.

I don't think he was getting squeezed at all. Maybe a pitch here or there, but that is just baseball. I guess when you throw so many strikes, a few might be missed. He just wasn't real sharp. A lot of balls got hit hard. Had a couple of long outs that would have been HR's in many parks. His breaking ball isn't fooling many hitters right now, because he seems to only throw it after he gets two strikes. He did vary his sequences some tonight after he gave up two hard hit singles on his curveball. He started trying to climb the ladder with his fastball after he got ahead and used his change more.

The good thing I can say is that even when he isn't very good, he is still pretty damned solid and perhaps the Barons best starter even on a day when he is so-so.

Thats even more impressive when you think of where he started the season. He's definately moved quite a bit from Low A to AA and has pretty much been oustanding everywhere he's been. Obviously he has a few adjustments to make now that he's in AA, but it appears from what you say, that most of it just comes from him developing into a bit better of a pitcher mentally, as in how he mixes up his pitches.

Like I always say, first pitch curve is possibly the best pitch you can throw, cause no one is ever sitting on it.
