Last in MLB attendance for 6 straight years and many other years since 1998 and now they go and trade away their most popular player in their history, just another nail in the coffin.
I'm hoping they stay in TB but if they don't get a new ballpark, they are gone.

Time for them to move to Montreal- major city upgrade and a nice rivalry set up with Toronto.

That would be great along with a return to the old unis...

Report: Padres offering Hosmer a 6 year $120 million contract https://twitter.com/mlbnetwork/statu...73609675964416

On one hand, that's a lot of money for an above average 1B. On the other hand, the Padres have almost no payroll and can easily eat that contract if things go south.

I think that is less than many people thought he'd be receiving.

Less than I thought, too. I was thinking he'd be getting $150 million, easy.

After being hyped as a finalist for Ohtani, the Padres seem like they're looking for a splash.

I don’t know why I thought he was older, but I was surprised to learn that Hosmer is only 28 years old. If I were Hosmer, I would push for a seventh guaranteed year, and as a “Plan B,” a vesting option based on plate appearances in years five and six. Based on what older players like Justin Upton, Edwin Encarnacion, and Carlos Santana received, $20 million AAV seems to be the fair market value for 1B/DH/corner OF of his caliber.

Possible fourth year which would bring the deal to around 66 million.

That's a lot of money to spend on a player whose sole job is to "not lose games".

Good relievers are in high demand, I guess: those types of pitchers have had little trouble finding contracts this off season. But yeah, that is a lot o' dough.

Reports say he has 7 year offers from both the Royals ($147M) and Padres ($140M).
