Future HOF Managers
LaRussa and Cox getting into the Hall has me thinking:
What current/retired managers are most likely to make the HOF?
One guy with a good shot: Bruce Bochy.
2x WS champ with SF
3x WS participant (98 with San Diego)
He's about .500 in record, but I could see him hitting 2,000 wins and getting into the top 10. 12 of the top 13 managers in wins are in the Hall, and the only guy who isn't (Gene Mauch) is under .500 in record and never won a WS.
Another: Lou Piniella
Has a player career with some honors: ROY, All-Star appearance, 2 WS titles as a player
As a manager: 3x manager of the year, 1x WS winner, #14 in wins, record-tying 116 win season with Seattle
I'm guessing when Bochy is done that he'll have a better shot than Piniella.
One last guy to think of: Mike Scioscia.
As a player: 2x All-Star, 2x WS champ
As a mgr: 1x WS champ, 2x manager of the year, .543 Win Pct.
He's another guy to have a chance at 2,000 wins. He was also the first manager to reach the playoffs in 6 out of his first 10 seasons.
