Yeah, Downs was worth a shot based on his career numbers and was coming off a good year in Atlanta. Father time just caught up with him real quick. A LOOGY who can't retire lefties serves no purpose. He also had a vesting option for $4 million next year if he reached 50 appearances and I'm sure the Sox didn't want a guy with an E.R.A. over 6 to reach that. I'm sure some contender will dumpster dive and give him one more shot. Glad we have moved on though.

It would have been disastrous if that option vested, and seeing as how Downs was the only LHP in the bullpen, over 50 appearances would have been a virtual certainty.

Not questioning your second point, but how do you know Abreu was Kenny's work? As GM, surely Hahn played a roll in his signing.

As I said in the other thread I'm high on the potential for Surkamp to stick here. I wish we were slotting him in the rotation instead of Carroll but imo It's only a matter of time

Downs looks like a co-worker of mine. I think my co-worker might be able to retire a lefty.

Adios, Lou Zher.

Chris Beck was called up to Charlotte to take Surkamp's spot. I imagine we'll be seeing him by September.

Prove it. If you're going to make a statement like that back it up. Otherwise it's just your opinion.

Hahn might be striking out in free agency but so what? It doesn't matter right now. I don't know what some of you think or expect, but this is not a team that is contending any time soon. Couple years from now, sure. But as far as this year and next year go I expect to see the same type of signings until they finally transition away from some of the dead weight on this team. To expect anything else for the next couple years is foolish. Now, that doesn't mean he shouldn't go after the right free agent if that player is available, but if there isn't someone that fits whatever plan he has then he's going to make some questionable signings. At least he cut Downs, it's more than what KW ever did or would do.
