Good thing this ended after midnight or this site would be melting down right now.

That has to be the most awful loss of this year, a real door slammer.
As the Sox get better -- and they are on the upswing -- these kind of losses will be more and more rare. |

Bad decision making is bad. What exactly was the goal, to let Sale get back to the 130 pitch count again? That worked so well the first time.
Ugh, brutal loss, pin this one squarely on Robin's chest. No excuse for not pulling Sale the second the shutout was gone, but when the next guy reached base only a dumbass would have left him in. Once the bases were loaded how the **** does he pitch to Trout?!!?!?!? Yo Robin, making that call is what managers do. You don't leave it up to a guy with an ego like Sale. He's NEVER going to tell you it's time to come out. YOU HAVE TO BE THE BAD GUY! If you can't do that, you should ****ing quit... I repeat... ugh... ![]()

Rundown of my reaction to the eighth inning-
Start of the inning- "Sale's still in there, okay, I guess." Erick Aybar doubles- "That sucks. No need to keep Sale in here, probably best to get the bullpen going." Chris Iannetta singles, Aybar scores- "Well, there goes the shutout. Time to get Sale out of there." Alexei's error- "God damn it. Get Sale the hell out of there." Howie Kendrick singles to load the bases- "What the **** are you doing, Robin???" Mike Trout comes to the plate, Sale is still on the mound- "WHY THE **** IS ROBIN THROWING SALE UNDER THE BUS AGAINST MIKE ****ING TROUT???? Mike Trout ties the game- "MOTHER****ER!!!!" Robin replaces Sale with Petricka- "NOW??? NOW YOU GET OFF YOUR ASS AND PULL HIM?" Petricka gives up back to back to back singles for the winning run- "I ****ing quit." That's how long Robin had an opportunity to do something, anything about that inning.

This is the type of game where I can't watch another one for a few days. Such a heart-breaker.

Back end of the bullpen has been solid. Once the shutout was gone, you have to go get someone. Sale was pushing 100 pitches already anyway and he's 3 starts removed from the DL probably due to over work earlier in the season. |

One more point: Ventura defers to Don Cooper on pitching decisions or at least he has. So I have to wonder -- was Cooper on board with how the 8th inning was handled tonight? |
