It saddens me that this nickname will be the one that sticks. Oso is a million times better.

Personally I prefer his Cuban League nickname of El Oso (The Bear.)

I concur and suspect Hawk's ego wouldn't let him use El Oso, since he didn't coin it. Geez, he could've stuck "Grande" in front of it or something to make it his.

El Oso is perfect- imagine a full house at the Cell changing "O-so, O-so, O-so..."- we need to go on a mission to make this stick-

From what I read, Abreu was also known as Yogi in Cuba. I guess Berra pretty much owns that one in the realm of US baseball, though.

Radio just played a soundbite of Hawk saying Alexei was a better SS than Tulo..... Can Hawk's new nickname be retired?

I forget, did Hawk coin The Cuban Missile for Alexei? I don't hear him use it, although I don't get to see many games, so maybe he does. I've heard it used on various highlight and talk shows, so it is definitely not just a message board thing.

Hawk is on Alexei's bandwagon very hard these days...constantly referring to him as have ''played the best ss for 50 games I have ever seen''... but he does say that Tulo has hit better, but does not throw the leather anywhere close to Alexei....I am ok with that...defense is huge at that position and Tulo hits in Denver....but not so well outside of Denver.

I defend Hawk, but he needs to rein it in somewhat on his bar-room conversational approach to play by play. Little too much wandering from the actual game in front of him. This week has found him in a particularly contemplative mood it seems....maybe being in Dodger-land has him reflecting on Drysdale more than usual.

I heard him say "El Can", 'the cannon" in the top of the 2nd right when Viciedo was approaching the plate .. at any rate, he used the term every time he mentioned Abreu's name last night so he really seems to be pushing the name pretty hard..

I could be wrong, but I thought it was Ozzie who coined the "Missile" nickname.

Tulo's home/away splits- he's a fluke of Coors Field-

This has been going on for a few weeks. Carmen DeFalco has discussed this many times and said the biggest die hard can't say Tulo is not better right now.

But, the ol Hawk is never wrong.

For ones that dont understand, this is regarding harrelson, not Abreu
