IMO, Axe looks to take a step up this year if the Sox stop using him as a starter. Considering our other options below setup, he could move up in the bullpen mix.
I think De Aza will have a strong season this year- he's looked very good in the few spring training games I've watched- I think he's a very good 4th OF- but I don't like him as an every day starter.

But for a rebuilding team- De Aza turn 30 this year and J. Danks is looking much improved (so a good fit as a LH 4th OF)- so if he's productive and can generate trade value- I think you need to move him.

For the short term- I'd prefer De Aza as our LH DH (with Danks as an additional OF) and just release Dunn (stinking up again in spring training) and move on-

  • 78-84, 3rd place
  • Dunn has decent 1st half and traded by deadline
  • Abreu is ROY
  • Sale 16-5, 2.83 ERA, 231 Ks
  • Davidson, Abreu & Garcia all hit over 20 HRs
  • Playoffs in 2015

82-80...I am a believer in what Rick Hahn is doing after all of Kenny Williams mistakes, e.g. Dunn..!!

I'll go with 75-87. Improvement, but not enough to have me excited just yet. Individual performances will be far more important this year.

82-80 - weak start - average mid-season - strong finish - last 6 weeks, no contender will want to play us..

83-79. Second in division. Abreu is strong ROY candidate. Avisail Garcia has excellent season. Sale finishes in top 3 for AL Cy Young. People outside Chicago realize Sale is pretty damn good. Sox announce changes in radio booth for 2015.

Paul Konerko hits .300 in his part time duty.
Some team gets a big injury and gets desperate for a trade, which opens the door for Adam Dunn to be traded.
Jose Abreu is the runaway rookie of the year.
Adrian Nieto will be the starting catcher in the second half.
The new guys will be fun to watch, but will have their ups and downs.
Sox win 78 games, but will have a strong September.

The pitching so far in spring training has been bad. It scares the heck out of me. If Quintana goes south this year all they can count on is Sale. I look at the relief staff and I really dont see much. The hitting does look better but not to the point that they will be able to slug their way to a decent record. I am hoping things brighten up but going for triple digit losses is a real possibility.

The Bovada over/under line for victories:

Detroit 89.5
Kansas City 82.5
Cleveland 80.5
WHITE SOX 75.5
Minnesota 70.5

I think that's a good line for the Sox as I don't feel strongly either way. It's probably going to be hard to exceed that if Danks is in the rotation, in my opinion.

If anyone cares, the Cubs are at 69.5, higher than only Houston at 62.5.

Abreu is receiving respect. He's the fifth choice to lead MLB in home runs at 15-1. Chris Davis and Miguel Cabrera are the favorites at 13/2 followed by Giancarlo Stanton (10/1) and Prince Fielder (12/1).

In case anyone actually wants to place a bet on this stuff, PM me and I'll give you my discount code.

I predict Robin tries to play Dunn every day to increase trade value. We go 10-40. Then we trade Dunn and rally to win the division…The end is near my friends, the end is near...

With the additions of Eaton, Abreu and Davidson the White Sox have a great core of players who will contribute big time in 2014. I like our first 3 starting pitchers of Sale, Quintana and Johnson. John Danks will make a great comeback this year and Paulino will give the White Sox a solid 5th starter. When all of this happens this year I figure making the 2014 Playoffs will be easy. The White Sox will be one of the big stories in baseball in 2014.
Especially when the Easter Bunny takes over as manager.

I'll take the Easter Bunny. The team could use more hop than it showed last year.

70-92

The new kids show promise, but DH and C remain massive black holes.

72 wins, unless Quintana keeps ****ting the bed. Then you'd likely be looking at mid to low 60s.
