Default 1983 Uniform w/New BP Cap is Now An Official Alternate

According to Dan Hayes via Twitter.

The '83 unis are now an alternate and not just on Sundays. They can be worn whenever the players want to.

Not a big fan of those weird batterman hats. I love the '83 unis though so its cool that they are keeping those. They should just stick with the real '83 hats but I'm more of a traditionalist. The partial "batterman" logo looks awkward to me.

Horrible idea. I liked the Sunday alternate thing. But the standard unis we have are great and should be the uni worn most of the time. I don't even particularly care for the black alternates, at least at home. Were 'em on the road with the grey pants. At home, we should be in pinstripes almost always.

I would've much preferred seeing the red pinstripes as home alternates. Those are classy as it gets.

Why not bring back Veeck's ugly unis too so we can be laughed at again.
Who is coming up with these dumb ideas, do they think it's going to put more fannies in the seats?

No. But it will sell more merchandise.

I personally LOVE the idea of the '83 unis being an alternate. I also don't mind the batter man cap. I guess I'm in the minority here.

As for the red pinstripes, I always hated those. The S-O-X script in the color red screams Red Sox and there's already a team in Boston with that name.

The Batterman cap is actually growing on me.

Not a fan of this at all- save it for the every 5 year "anniversary" of the '83 team- I don't like the hat at all.

Just go with the standard uni- and leave it at that

This wouldn't bother me if the 83 logo/color scheme in any way whatsoever complemented the primary uniform. Red/white/blue with block lettering is just so far removed from black/white/gray with old English lettering that they may as well be different franchises. The two schemes can't exist in the same uniform family.

Look at the Brewers: They've successfully reintroduced their retro MB-glove uniform into the regular rotation because, even though the shades of yellow and blue have evolved, it's still yellow and blue.

God, this organization...

I like it. Something about those unis has always tickled my fancy. Also reminiscent of the days when the Sox kept changing uniforms. I like the current ones, but it's nice to switch it up once in awhile.

They shoulda went with the 1977-1981 uniforms on Sundays. I will admit the Sox did make the 83 uniforms look kinda cool but with all the uniforms the Sox have had, they should continue to use different jerseys on Sundays.

Fugly. Worst looking Sox uniform. Ever.

I'd rather see them wear the caveman uniform submitted during the 1981 uniform contest. (No I'm not making that up - see page 31 of this issue in the Sports Illustrated archive.)
